I'm not really a dessert guy but I've had a few that really stood out.

I had a bread pudding with Bourbon sauce at Emeril's one time and ordered a late harvest Riesling to go with it. The whole thing was close to perfection.

I don't remember what restaurant it was but some friends of mine and I ate lunch at a place where a guy we knew was the sous chef. He did the whole menu for us -- we never ordered anything. We had a soup sampler: RB&R, turtle soup and gumbo; the entree was redfish with a crawfish cream sauce and the dessert was individual chocolate souffles in coffee mugs with chocolate sauce on top. Incredible.

Also I make a pretty decent bananas Foster from time to time. And Paul Prudhomme's Sweet Potato Pecan Pie with Chantilly Cream is fabulous.

Finally sometimes you just can't beat an old fashioned cherry pie with vanilla ice cream.

My mom makes homemade brownies and tops them with peanut butter frosting. Hands down the best dessert I've ever had

Homemade caramel cake is the answer.

I had a habanero creme brulee at the Whiptail Grill just outside Zion National Park in Springdale, UT that was absolute perfection.

My grandmothers banana pudding, sad thing is she passed before she gave away the recipe. No one has been able to replicate it.

Nothing for me, compares to the first time I tried Commander's Bread Pudding Soufflé.

It’s strange - Commanders is my favorite restaurant anywhere, but I don’t think their bread pudding soufflé is anything special. I really haven’t been “wowed” by any of their desserts, actually.

but I love Mexican flan and creme brulee

My two favorites overall also. My Mom used to make a creme brulee served in puff pastry cups. It was so good. She's abandoned that and makes the usual in the au gratin dishes now. Still delicious.

I also love the pecan pie at Brigtsen's and Mr. B's. Can't finish a slice in one sitting, but they're great to share. I love dessert, but I really only need about 3 bites or so to satisfy my craving a little sweet after a meal.

I had a great dessert at Shaya recently. I didn't make much of dent in it, but it was so good. Here's the description:

warm chocolate babka | 9
hazelnut brittle, caramelized white chocolate, sweet cream gelato

During blueberry season, Brigtsen's blueberry bread pudding is very good as is the blueberry sorbet at Peche.

I don't know what it was called, but it was some sort of pastry/fruit tart at Del Porto. The pastry tasted like those danish butter cookies. If I hadn't been so disgustingly full I would have ordered a second one.

My favorite is always brownie al a mode. My wife makes it just right. Hot brownie, cold vanilla ice cream on top the brownie, and drizzled hot fudge and caramel on top.

So many to choose from. Dulce Leche, Flan, Creme Brulee and Banana's Foster.

Redfish Grill used to have a Banana's Foster Up that is my favorite all-time dessert. The twist was fried Banana Fritters with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream topped with the Sauce. Served in a Milkshake glass like container. The Banana Fritters were cut lengthwise, battered, fried and sprinkled with cinnamon. I had that dessert 20 plus times. Wish they'd bring it back.

Not the best, but perhaps the best story: had lunch at Chez Panisse Cafe (upstairs) on Mardi Gras day about 10 years ago, and an obnoxious guy seated at the table immediately next to ours made a bit of a scene. He finally left, and the kind waiter apologized for his boorish behavior and offered a complimentary dessert. We said, sure, and he very proudly presented us with:
a lovely hammered copper footed bowl with unpeeled satsumas and whole dates.

LOL. Now, I guess if you were from Michigan, or Kansas, or someplace cold and snowy, you might have been delighted by unadorned, whole satsumas and dates. My south Louisiana self was massively underwhelmed, as my homegrown fruit was larger, tastier, and certainly fresher than the oh-so-precious Chez Panisse fruit presented to us like it was jewelry. (Cali dates were fresh and good, tho)

Moral of the story: if you're gonna comp someone dessert to make up for a sub-par dining experience, don't give 'em a damn unpeeled satsuma.

Great but doesn't hold a candle to the blueberry tiramisu.

That and the bread pudding souffle at Commander's are probably my top 2.
