Taste buds have nothing to do with it smart arse.. Ever ask yourself what is the difference between a Shrimp Po-Boy and a Shrimp Submarine?
Some people just dont grasp the concept that its the FRENCH BREAD with its crispy outside and moist interior that makes this sandwich a po-boy. Of course Im sure many people ignorant to this fact just consider anything served at Subway to be a Po-Boy too.

Say's the guy with the fricking Darrell's sign as his avatar. Yeah, you're not just a little bias. Look, you can call it what you want but the bread DOES make it a po-boy. Otherwise it's just a sandwich, which is fine by the way. I've tried Darrell's and I've had po-boys from corner stores in the ninth ward growing up that were just as good. NOT BETTER, but just as good.

No...you want to know why?
BECAUSE IT DOESN'T frickING MATTER ONCE YOU START EATING IT.
Hell, call it a Shrimp Asscrack for all I care. As long as it tastes good, LOOKS like a poboy/sub/hoagie/long sandwich, who the hell cares what it is called.
As I said before, poboy snobs = stupid.

this reminds me of the champagne/sparkling wine designation.......i understand the difference but don't really give a shite

Well why dont we just call EVERYTHING just food dumb arse. We shall have three classes of food.. Bad Food, Good Food and Average Food. What did you eat last night? Good Food... Ahh yea There is a very distinct difference between a ham sandwich and a muffellatta do you go around calling a ham sandwich a muff? NO you dont? Why is that? Because the fricking bread is different.

Catman I completely agree with you. In order to be called a poboy it needs to be on poboy bread!

A key ingredient that differentiates po' boys from subs, gyros, and grinders is the bread. Louisiana French bread is different from the traditional baguette, in that it has a flaky crust with a soft, airy center .[citation needed] This is generally attributed to the high ambient humidity causing the yeast to be more active. It also differs from the bread usually used for sub-style sandwiches in the rest of the country, which has a soft exterior. The crust of Louisiana French bread is very crispy--so much so that it is difficult to eat without leaving crumbs. But the interior is very light and airy, often less dense than regular white bread.[dubious – discuss]

so by this definition it is "Louisiana" french bread, not New Orleans.

Next time I go there I'm taking pictures and you tell me what the hell it is I'm eating.
But all I know is that when I go there and ask for a half loaf (foot and half) shrimp po'boy loaded that's what I get.
I don't care if the bread was baked in New Orleans or the f*cking moon, it's the exact same*.
It's crunchy on the outside and slightly softer on the inside, it's impossible to eat without leaving behind crumbs and it's f*cking delicious!
(*= maybe not the exact same as Leidenheimer's but it's close)

Leidenheimer's bought out several other bakeries over the last few years and they deliver to many Baton Rouge groceries and restaurants and have for the last few years.
Pouparts from Lafayette is as good as Leidenheimers and I love them both. The bread is good and makes the po boy but more places in BR use them than you would think.

To be a po-boy it would need to have Louisiana French Bread. To be a better po-boy it would need New Orleans bread. The weather plays alot in the making of the bread so certain areas of the state the bread would not be the same also. Of course if you made the same bread in the same climate in another state then you would probably have the same quality too.

I know many pizza purists claim that the magic is in the crust, much like the bread of a poboy. They say only certian climates, old ovens, and water mineral contents make a proper crust. So, many say that crust outside of the NYC area is shite....so by the harsh NOLA-centric logic being layed forth in this topic could it be said that real pizza is only made around New York?

Was Pizza invented in NYC? No But can you find the best in NYC? Defititly. The Po-Boy is a new orleans creation unlike a pizza which was brought over from Italy. Sure you can get french bread anywhere and if you use french bread to make a po-boy then it is a po-boy (you can just get the better bread for this sandwich in NO.) If you use hoagie bread then it is NOT a po-boy. There is no harsh logic to it just a plane simple fact of life. Do you call spaghetti spaghetti if it was red sauce on linguini? Some people may but its not spaghetti.

Ok if you retards want to call a ham sandwich a cheescake and be completely ignorant so be it. You cant dispute the fact that a sandwich on a hoagie roll is NOT a Po-Boy.

if its on french bread, i call it a po boy. I dont care what the definition is

Isn't "poboy snob" kind of an oxymoron?
poboy stands for poorboy, and snob is kind of the opposite of that

Catman, Darrels is in Lake Chuck. There have been several threads about Darrels. The special from Darrels is excellent. IMHO !!

Savemore does have awesome poboys, and you get to feel a little urban when going there. Everytime my parents visit, my dad goes there atleast once.
Bmoney-how much is it from the place on Gardere? and Where on Gardere is it located? I guess I should be packing if I go huh?
