My favorite is Old Time Grocery in Lafayette near the UL campus. One of the best shrimp poboy's I've had. There meatball and swiss is pretty good too.

Not going to read 7 pages, but if someone hasn't mentioned the French Fry Poboy from Mother's, its something you have to try at least once.

I'm also partial to the roast beef from Robbie's in Houma.

Oh and the bread is a big deal, live with it. Its not just the recipe used, but the 200 year old brick ovens, the humidity, the water, everything that goes into it.

You guys got some insane standards. You get paid to roam chat rooms and blast posters who dare say they could get a good poboy outside of New Orleans. I have had some fine poboys in Baton Rouge and else where. Were they made in New Orleans, no. Where they as good. Some yes, some no . I will say when you get outside of south Louisiana ie north of I-10 it is hard to find good French bread. Would also say to most people outside of LA a poboy means fired seafood on a French roll. I don’t see people saying a hoagie with southern fried seafood on their menu. They just say poboy....Just get over it you lost the war....people from coast to coast have poboys on their menu and theres nothing you can do about it but go see a shrink.

I may even put the CATMAN POBOY on my menu here in Texas just for you....

Catmans poboy.... Southern fired catfish topped with bean sprouts and saffron mayonnaise served on a sourdough roll.

What that a po-boy should be served on French Bread? Wow that some HUGE standard to live by. I suppose you believe that PRIME Rib is any type of Rib Roast one can find too.

You have changed your standard since the start of this thread now.

So it just has to be french bread now.....

Im sorry when did I ever say otherwise?? You can read right?? I said from the get go that for it to be a po-boy it has to be on french bread. For it to be a GREAT Po-boy one should use NO style french bread preferably from one of the big three bakers in NO. People were arguing that it was about the toppings while I was saying its about the bread. Non-French bread = NOT a Po-Boy its going to be a Hoagie or a Sub. I recal stating this ad nausium in this thread.

Hopefully you know the difference between a regular loaf of french bread and a NO style loaf of french bread. Its a big difference in texture.

Yea thats what I said do you know reading comprehension?? You cannot put meat on subway bread and call it a po-boy! Jesus fricking christ why is that so hard to understand?

I say NO french bread becasue there are two different kinds I can walk into a grocery store and buy. One is not good for poboys and the other is. Now If I wanted a GREAT bread for a Poboy I would seek out a place that sells Leindermans. The other type of bread you throw garlic on and bake.

If you actually read the thread i defined to 4444 what I meant by NO bread.

I sometimes eat a shrimp poboy at Save More. They are a great bargain and not bad but the shrimp aren't very good. Def. shipped in from out the country.

they make poboys at a gas station/pizza place in bossier that are amazing. you can pick what kind of fried food to put in their and the sourdough bread is sometimes toasted on the inside (that may be accidental)
