poboy stands for poorboy, and snob is kind of the opposite of that

Which is why it is so comical to read people get so snobby about the damn bread.

I guarantee you a "poor" person wouldn't give two shits on Sunday what kind of bread you served his meal on.

the point is to be snobby about certains FOODS and DRINKS

That's fine and dandy, but some people take it to the extreme and insinuate that other "less-enlightened" posters don't know what tastes good.

Hell, if someone posted on this board that their favorite kind of cheese is Velveeta, he would get attacked and told that he doesn't know good cheese and that he is awful and terrible and stupid. Of course, none of that would have anything to do with his affinity for Velveeta. I thought the food and drink board was to discuss food and drink related topics, not to show off that you have tried something good and act like you are better than someone else who doesn't like it.

But, whatever you want to do...I am obviously a mental midget because I don't care what kind of bread my sandwich is served on.

favorite and preference isn't always best...hard for some to understand, but true nonetheless

To be a better po-boy it would need New Orleans bread. The weather plays alot in the making of the bread so certain areas of the state the bread would not be the same

So what your saying is if I opened a bakery in Gonzales my French bread would be twice as good as Baton Rouge french bread, but only half as good as New Orleans french bread...

What exactly is snobby about saying a Po-Boy must have French Bread? Its not snobby its a fact. Thats like saying a person is a snob for saying a Ham and Swiss sandich must contain both Ham and Swiss.

Exactly what I am talking about.

Who the frick are you to tell someone that the thing they like best (and they are the only person that would know this) is not the best thing for them? The fact that you might rank it #4324 is completely irrelevant to the fact that I might rank it #1. Your opinion has no affect on my taste buds. Why don't you get this?

As Coach Les Miles would say, when it comes to my taste, "you get no vote."

I am open to new suggestions that would open me up to bumping my current favorite for something else, but don't tell me that what I like is not good. Just tell me you don't like it, make a suggestion for an alternative and move on.

This level of arrogance is amazing.

Yea you're a fricking genius..

The bakeries in NO have been making the EXACT same bread in the EXACT same way since the late 1800s!

But if you made french bread and put meat on it the sandwich could be called a po-boy no matter where you made it. But have you ever made a Po-Boy out of the french bread you get baked from Albertsons? Not the best po-boy in the world. Go pick up a couple loafs from some of the NO places and try the same po-boy then you will see a big difference.

Just shut up. We GET IT. No one here is arguing that a poboy doesn't need super-special poboy bread. It's not a question of why it is named such, at least not for me.

I am arguing that it doesn't fricking matter at all when it comes to taste. If it tastes good, I'll eat shrimp on saltine crackers. I don't give a crap what you call it.

It is snobby to be a little whiny bitch about the whole thing when the whole point of the thread anyway was to talk about poboys or poboy substitutes that people should try. Whether Danny and Clyde's and Save More serve true poboys is completely irrelevant when it comes to people making recommendations as to what food might taste good.

So if I decide to eat a shrimp "sub" and it tastes great, then I eat a shrimp "poboy" and it tastes like shite, I don't really give a shite which one is authentic or not. I'll eat the one that tastes good.

Thats fine but you would be pretty confused if you ordered a pizza and they gave you a po-boy and said it was a pizza right? Many places around here MARKET a Sub as a po-boy take your money then give you a sub. If I wanted a sub I would go to Subway. If its on the menu as a Po-Boy then it better be on french bread. If you market it as a NO Po-Boy it better be on NO french bread. Not a hard concept.

What a stupid fricking comment. Just plain stupid.

Boo-fricking-hoo. If you order it, and it tastes good, do you send it back and be a whiny bitch to the waiter and restaurant, or do you eat it?

Well I really think if you took the recipe and baked in a place of equal climate and called it NO style french bread then it wouldnt matter.

When I say NO french bread its more about the cripy exterior and moist interior than about the exact location it was baked (aside from the fact that the humidity plays apart in it)

Would I sent it back no.. But if I wanted a PO-BOY I wouldnt return to the place. If I wanted a SUB I would. What DONT you understand? THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT SANDWICHES.

PoBoys you HAVE TO TRY!
There is a gas station down Nicholson called "Save More"!
I believe that it's on the corner of Iris and Nicholson. It has a sign out front that says biggest poboys in town (and that's true.)
You can get a FOOT and a HALF or a THREE FOOT POBOY!!

The foot and a half run for about $4.29 (including tax!) This includes hamburger, hot sausage, smoked sausage, Catfish .....
Shrimp and Oyster is about $6 for a foot and a half.

The price of the 3 foot is just double what you pay for the foot and a half.

They are delicious and definitely worth it.

If you've tried them, let me know what you think.

Do you own the place?

I bet you do

I agree with that totally, Just saying the only decent Po-boy bread is in New Orleans is the snobby part everyone is refering too.

BTW I have had Johny's a few times, very good yes, But not that much better than what I get at Po-boy express

Congratulations, you are now officially a stupid piece of shite.

I KNOW THAT THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT SANDWICHES, AIDS DICK.

They are similar, the bread is different, whoopty-do. If the non-poboy tastes good, WHO THE frick CARES WHAT IT IS CALLED? Call it a shite brick for all I care. What do you do if someone advertises a hoagie and it comes out and it's on Catman certified NO poboy bread? Do you stop going there too? I love the poboy snobs..."I'm never going there again! They had the nerve to call a sandwich that looks like a poboy, tastes like a poboy and smells like one a POBOY when all it was is a lowly little sub." I'm sure businesses will weep in your absence and change their menus just for you. What a little bitch.

I haven't seen one person post here that they would not eat a sandwich that tastes great, called a poboy on the menu but not really a poboy.

Well I guess we could start a post tyring to find out all the bakeries that make NO style french bread. The only issue is that I would guess the vast majority would be in the NO area. Although someone pointed out one in Lafayette.

Yea but if the Albertsons was in New Orleans it would be outstanding right , Cause its all about the weather when making french bread..

Just trying to point out a good french bread can be made somewhere besides New Orleans
