Milk going bad early

For the last 5 years or so milk doesn’t make it till expiration date. I’ve cut down from gallon to half gallon containers and it still doesn’t make it. Sometimes a week before it’ll go bad. It seem the quart containers are the only hope. I don’t understand what’s changed. It seems all brands are a problem. And yes my fridge is at 37 degrees. Has anybody else been experiencing this?

It's obviously your refrigerator or your supplier.
Have you tried changes to both? Different store, same result? Lower temp on fridge, same result?

In the past, we had a couple of stores that obviously had refrigeration or handling issues, and their milk never lasted close to the expiration date. So the store (or their delivery/supplier) could be the issue.
During covid, we switched to the ultra-pasteurized milk. I get the Kroger brand, which is way cheaper. Some folks don't like it as much as regular milk, but I can't tell the difference in a bowl of cereal or a bit in a cup of tea. The milk in my fridge now is dated for December 11, and it will go that long or more if needed.

we switched to fair life, cost a bit more but it lasts so long. Worth it to me, I need to check house brands to save a dollar

Fairlife lasts a long time and tastes good

I've experienced the opposite. Just finnished a gallon that had 10/16 Use By Date.

Do you keep the milk in the door? That will shorten the life. Stick it in the back of the fridge if you can.
I've tried fairlife and just am not a fan of the taste. It tastes cooked and never feels cold enough on the tongue.

How long does it last after it has first been opened?
You also realize the dates on there are for unopened milk, right? I highly doubt your milk has an expiration date on it either. Usually they only provide a best by/sell by date.

Soy or Lactaid is the way to go when it comes to milk.

I'm the only one that drinks milk in the house and not frequently so I need it to last longer than most. (A week). I've all but given up on the Rouses' milk in the metro New Orleans area and convinced it is their handling procedures because I've had few issues with milk from other retailers. When Winn Dixie was around their own brand lasted the longest. I've tried several brands from Rouses and they mostly go bad well before their expiration date. I've even had Fairlife go bad and it typically stays the freshest the longest.
So we're left paying the premium for Fairlife but end up spending less for milk overall because we are able to use the whole bottle. I prefer the texture/flavor of regular whole milk over Fairlife but Fairlife's chocolate milk is excellent!
BTW, has anybody tried Sinagra milk? It's from the Amite/Franklinton area and I see Zuppardo's is now selling it but I got sticker shock when I saw the price! Not sure I want to spend $12 and end up throwing it away because I don't like it.

I agree with milk not lasting as long as before. Maybe not five years, but I’ve definitely had problems at lots of different grocery stores in the last couple of years. It seems like around me in Gonzales the Kleinpeter milk lasts the longest but it’s way more expensive than the store brands. And I also agree with the poster that said the Fairlife brand tastes weird.

I typically get milk when the grandkids are coming over. I’d noticed the same thing, seemed like it’s been going bad quicker.
I switched to organic milk. Costs a few bucks more, but lasts a lot longer.

I've had that issue with Sam's milk or the value milk from Walmart. I pretty much only buy kleinpeter milk and never have a problem

Can’t say I have ever had this issue. Mainly because with 2 toddlers and both my wife and I drink milk a good bit we go thru 2-3 gallons in a week

Organic and don’t keep milk in the door…warmest spot in your fridge.

Yes I have tried Sinagra Dairy milk. They sell raw cow milk and low temp pasteurized milk. I bought the raw milk and it was EXCELLENT and I don’t even drink much milk. It is pricey but I’d continue to buy it. I hear their chocolate milk is soooo good but Carter’s grocery never has the chocolate when I go.
