re: Truck bed cover

Posted by AUVet21 on 7/7/26 at 9:48 am to
Second the bakflip mx4. I am on my second cover for my truck the first one was damaged by a tree limb falling on it. Both have been good and pretty much leakproof. I will say that the first one I removed entirely to move a gun safe and it did leak more after that so I may not have it in the exact right spot. But otherwise I have been very happy
Like they said it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I could definitely see this being the next domino to fall that you can draft a guy late in the second round who showed promise their freshman year and retain their rights hoping they make a sophomore leap and then they are yours
No idea about the tcl but I hate my Samsung TVs user interface. To the point where if we move I won’t take the tv with me
Taco mamacita is great if you are looking for a good Tex mex spot

Thanks guys and I have a copperhead pit boss vertical smoker. It was on 225 for about an hour and a half (145 temp) then put the glaze on and cranked it up to 300. Recipe said it would take 15-20 minutes to get to 165 but at 35 minutes I was still at 150 and hungry so I cut it to 350 to get it ready and that took another 10-15 minutes

Smoked Duck

Smoked my first duck today and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. Did a hoisin based glazed that is a little sweeter than I usually like but not bad. Skin is definitely chewier than chicken and my wife is not a fan. So guess I’ll be eating duck all week

Well for some reason I can’t get the pictures to post right so sorry but the glaze definitely did a good job of sticking to the skin

Gloves for working around the house

Posted by AUVet21 on 6/14/26 at 5:48 pm
Looking for a pair of thinner gloves to wear while doing DIY and home repair stuff around the house to protect my fingers and knuckles. I’m tired of always having knicks and cuts on my fingers from hitting them trying to tighten a bolt on something or what have you. Dexterity is key and they don’t have to be insulated (don’t really do any electrical work)
Not trying to be a buzzkill here but it is illegal to have them as a pet in Alabama. Therefore you cannot have it treated at any vet clinic if something happens their only option is to euthanize it or call the game warden on you.

New Screwdriver

My kobalt ratchet screwdriver just bit the dust so I’m needing a new one. What’s the best brand out there for durability and quality? I just use it for around the house stuff
Wife and I were in a wedding where during send off one of the grooms cousins hiked her leg on a tree and pulled her romper to the side to pee. One of the funniest things I have ever seen to this day. The tree was only 20-30 feet from the line so it was not in anyway hidden

Interest Rate Negotiation

Anyone had any luck haggling with different companies against each other for interest rates for a land loan? Specifically credit unions or local banks?

You are probably thinking of the “Dino bones” version where they leave most of the meat on the bones. This cut they leave most of it with the ribeye so there isn’t a whole lot of meat to them but what’s there is delicious

Yes they are back ribs. Essentially what is left after they cut the ribeye off. $10 at Publix not on sale. It is a “by product cut” so they are essentially throw away. They are not nearly as meaty as your big short ribs but just as flavorful. Used meat church holy gospel overnight in the fridge. 250 for 2 1/2 hours (170 temp) then another hour and a 1/2 wrapped in foil after spritzing a couple times with apple cider vinegar until they were 200 temp

Loan for land purchase only

Posted by AUVet21 on 5/3/26 at 7:34 pm
Looking at buying some land for a future homesite. Probably won’t build for a few years. Located outside Birmingham. Anyone got any recommendations on who to go thru for the loan? I know some places won’t loan you anything without building within a year.

Northwestern Mutual App

Posted by AUVet21 on 4/15/26 at 3:17 pm
I have my disability and life insurance thru Northwestern and so all my accounts are connected thru their app. Their app is awful and always is having trouble keeping my accounts connected and updated. Anyone else have this issue?
