Is Johnny's "Sweep the Swamp" as delicious as it sounds?

My Jags visited ULM this weekend. I watched the series on espn+, and it seemed that almost every commercial break included an advertisement for Johnny's Pizza. This particular advertisement hailed the return of their "Sweep the Swamp" pizza. I've often seen reference made to their "Sweep the Kitchen®" pizza on this very board, but have never had the opportunity to order a Johnny's Pizza. A combination of crawfish, shrimp, andouille sausage, cajun spice, bell peppers, onions, jalapeños, and mozzarella cheese on a pizza sounds simply delectable.

Please share your "Sweep the Swamp" experiences with me.

They are good, but their sweep the kitchen is better.

Friend,

I tried Johnny’s once and was disappointed partly because of the high praise it received from this board. Truth be told, had I no expectations I still would have been disappointed.

It was perhaps four years ago. We were traveling with Cousin who was considering a move to Shreveport. We passed a Johnny’s and I said, “Our friends, OTIS and balls, rave about Johnny’s. They say it’s better than Razza. Let’s stop here.”

Cousin loves pizza even more than I. In 2016 he did a pizza tour of Italy that I regret missing. He travels to NYC every year to try new pizzas. He didn’t need convincing to stop when food authorities rave about pizza.

We stopped and the three of us decided to try three pizzas: sweep the kitchen, sweep the swamp, and plain.

After eating a slice of each Cousin said, “Never again should you get advice on pizza from the Food Board. I came expecting something like Sally’s. What we got was a conveyer belt oven pizza like Gatti’s or CiCi’s. You can’t hide a bad pizza under a pile of toppings. Don’t ever let those two gorgonize you again.”

I hate to be negative, but Cousin was absolutely correct. I do not know if the praise Johnny’s gets here is an inside joke. If it is, you got us. Regardless, Domino’s is superior and significantly cheaper. Noting your Mobile stock, I would also note that Godfather’s is better, even though its quality has dropped since 1990, when the NOLA Metro still was home to Godfather’s. The standard plain was wholly unforgettable as well, with dough and sauce that did not even rise to the level of mediocrity. Worse yet, we spent at Johnny’s more than we did the last time the three of us ate at John’s of Bleecker.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

All those toppings would be better on other things than pizza. Meh

Johnnys is a good, “cheap quality” local pizza chain. There’s nothing wrong with it. You shouldn’t go there expecting an authentic New York top of the charts pizza place.

I’ve never had the sweep the swamp.

Oh, and TulaneLSU, Gattis is the GOAT “cheap pizza”.

To me, it’s like my grandmothers potato salad. I claim it’s the best because it’s what I grew up eating. It just tastes like home. Now if you want to get into technicals there are better/worse Johnnys out there just like with anything.

Now I find it hard to believe the people saying “it’s not good pizza”. They’re just being snobs. I’m not going to stand on the table and scream it’s the best pizza in the world but it is pretty damn good. Others that say it’s bad are just haters that walk around with their nose held high

I'm not a fan- I don't want all that delicious seafood on a tomato sauced crust. My son loves it, so we end up getting 1 or 2 every year, but give me Sweep the Kitchen (no anchovies, well done crust), every day of the week.

I grew up eating Johnny’s it was always great until they started cutting it the wrong way. Seems like the quality went way down since Johnny died.

Johnny’s pizza and Darrell’s poboys…along with Cane’s are definitely three of the the most overrated food establishments in Louisiana.

your friend is a pretentious frick. who the hell thinks going to a local chain pizza restaurant is gonna compare to other styles.

And i have been to Italy...... Neapolitan pizza is very good for what it is... but really it sucks compared to any of the best American styles of pizza.

Johnnys is the better than any of the chains, dominos, hut, etc. BUT it is more expensive so they are all comparable IMO.

Get it with Buffalo sauce. Worked at a Johnnys for 3 years in undergrad and experimented a lot with the different toppings.

when i was in the area a few years ago and tried their pies,
i thought it was like hungry howie quality, not impressed.

I did enjoy taco bandido. It is a step up from taco bell.

It's a cheap pizza joint. There is nothing special about Johnny's. I've eaten it numerous times and I don't care for it anymore. My kids rather frozen pizza.

We have eaten at famous pizza places all over the country, my brother and I spent $200 at Lou Malnatis. Johnny's pizza is better than all of them. Every time we go to a famous expensive pizza place, we always say we cant wait to get home to go to Johnny's. I wouldnt get a sweep the swamp though. Medium pepperoni with extra cheese.

Damn. I didn’t know it had such a following. There’s one a mile or so from my house and I don’t know that I’ve ever been.

Interesting. Seeing a post after the big "SERVER UPGRADE"all but confirms my suspicion that Chicken has bots that post on this board to entice and agitate real people.

TulaneLSU is a fraud.
