Gas or induction

If you were you, what kind of cooktop would you choose?

I have both. I prefer induction overall, but when I lose power or want an indoor toasted marshmallow, I like my gas.

Currently renovating. Gas and never really had a second thought about it.

I have induction and love it.
Benefits: Boiling water is noticeably faster than gas. Pot handles and extraneous areas stay cooler when cooking. Easy to clean and looks great. Just as responsive as gas at lowering or raising the requested heat.
Cons: The cooktop is not metal and thus you can't shift and slam pots and pans around like you can on a gas stove.
I would do induction again 10/10 times.

I love my induction. I’ve always had gas but was looking for something that was easier to clean. I’ve got a gas hookup too in case I want to go back but I don’t see going back to gas.

Induction for stovetop. I have plenty of options for cooking on alternate fuels though.
Not all pans work on induction. I gave about half my cookware away when we switched, but upgrading pans was nice. Sadly Magnalite isn't compatible, my mother-in-law now has a nice set.

I have induction and absolutely hate it. Gas is much more better. Once you get a pot really hot wit induction, it is hard to drop the temp.

Average repair cost for induction ranges $400-500
Glass top $200-300
Gas burners $150-200 but most issues can be fixed with cleaning.
(Bad spark top issue)
Induction seem to have a high fail rate on some brands.

I'm on the fence as well.
Seems everyone with induction really likes it, with the exception of "gas is much more better".
I'm not sure how a pot could not cool down once it's hot.

What? I've cooked with both pretty extensively, and my experience is quite the opposite. I love gas, but the temperature control with induction is quite damn impressive. I'd say that's where induction really shines is the ability to set the temp you want (very precisely) and hold it there, or move it to where you want (up or down) very quickly.

This makes zero sense and in fact is against my personal experience and the laws of physics.

Ok, now the above comment makes sense when put into context.

Completely incorrect, induction pot temps drop faster than gas. We have both in our kitchen and the difference is significant BUT not as significant as the difference between electric and gas. Are you sure you aren't comparing glass top electric to gas and not induction burners?

I was team gas forever. Went induction recently and I’ll say the performance (for residential, indoor use) is pretty much neck and neck. Getting water to boil in 3 minutes is definitely a big perk of induction.
