If we are going non traditional this one is hard to beat.
I also like the Ray Ray from Sammy's.

My go to is R&O’s in Bucktown.

We usually get a large Shrimp, dressed and the Italian Roast Beef and each take a half.

Parkway Tavern used to have a good roast beef but I haven’t been in a while.

Has Parkway changed their roast beef recipe? Was there last weekend and the roast beef poboy was rather blank and disappointing. Not nearly as good as it used to be.

I always thought it was bland there

Go to R&O's and order a roast beef poboy and a fried shrimp appetizer. Put the shrimp on the poboy and enjoy your surf and turf

Doesnt get any better

The last 3 times I've been, it sucked. Won't be ordering it there anymore. Stick to shrimp

My personal favorite roast beef poboy purveyor is Parasol’s. That said, I don’t get up that way as often anymore. The poboy at R & O’s was good the last time I had it, but I’m not a fan of their dining room, which I find overwhelmingly noisy, not to mention tainted by the memory of seeing Ronnie Lamarque there, ostentatiously stepping out on his first wife Carmela with the woman who became his second wife. My go-to choice for out-of-town visitors is Parkway. It combines decent food with a fun, evocative atmosphere, and the recent changes they’ve made to the facilities have only improved the experience, imo. Domilise’s is my runner-up pick, but only for visitors wanting a “real” New Orleans excursion.

My favorites are R&O’s and the surf & turf from Johnny’s.

If there are better po’boys out there than these two places, I want to know about them.

I love the roast beef poboy at R & Os but I feel compelled to get the veal parm poboy every time. I just cant pass it by with a side of onion rings.

Popular perception is their meat po boys are better than seafood. They do a sliced roast beef rather than debris. Lots of special sandwiches unique to the joint as well.
