About 12% of Louisiana's white population has at least 1% African ancestry.
I am in that number, according to 23andme. A second cousin traced our genealogy back to an aristocratic second son who emigrated to Maryland in the 1600s. A generation or two down the line, the then planter’s son had a child when he was in his teens, with a teenage mother. That child was disinherited. I’m inclined to believe he was biracial. That child’s widow later petitioned the newly formed United States for his war benefits, after he died fighting in the RW.

stayed in Clayton,
How was Clayton? Visited distant family there years ago. It seemed like an exclusive area then, but I was young and clueless. What’s it like now?

Speaking of which, I hope this means Charisse Gibson gets the hook. Still unhappy about the way Karen Swensen was maneuvered out, especially after she returned here following Katrina.

Two dumpy places that were mostly empty most of the time that people are now coming out the woodwork to screech hysterically over them closing.
Was there not long ago with my spouse. We were running errands, and just needed a decent meal at a decent price, w/o bells and whistles. Ted’s gave us just what we wanted, with the added bonus of dining with a bunch of real New Orleanians, not a transplant in sight. Yes, the place is old, and it looks it. Did we mind? No! Too much of the city is being gentrified out of all recognition. We didn’t want any of that chichi stuff, which I’m sure is coming in the new build.
Yup! Kicked out of The Red Hen in Lexington, VA for the same reason: the staff felt “unsafe.” We are doomed!

Apparently, that restaurant closed and reopened with a new name in an effort to rebrand after their customer base disappeared in the wake of the 2018 incident involving then White House spokeswoman Huckabee.
I’m partial to Mephisto for his name. Might be a mouthful when you call him, though. (Our cats’ names are suggestions only, as they always get played around with until they become ridiculous.)

I have a few I’m sure. What’s weird is when I get a Facebook birthday notification for someone who I know has been dead for years.
I wish FB would let its users organize friends who have passed, so that they aren’t showing up at odd moments. I don’t want to delete them from my Friends list, but having them show up randomly feels wrong.

When I was in high school 20 years ago, there would be teachers from the Catholic high schools actively looking out for kids drinking on the Mardi Gras parade route.
I was on a message board for a local public school (magnet) post-Katrina. Some Karen tried to police this behavior during that first post-Katrina MG, posting about teen drinking she had observed along the St. Chas route. She was shut down by the parents with the quickness, told to MHOB, and to keep her nose out of it. I was impressed by how quickly the wagons were circled.

Honestly it doesn’t much matter to any of this but if hurling it as an insult, just trying to help you out here
You are right. My bad. It’s so obvious that she is using this episode to raise her professional profile, that I assumed that was how she came to be here in the first place. Social media has made it so easy for these bad actors to stir up a storm, that this year has been a tough one for our parades. And our pandering politicians aren’t helping the situation.

Not to pick nits but her resume says wdsu starting October 2023

From her resume page, which I linked:

Stage Manager/ Photographer- EDR Studios Cleveland Ohio September 1998- September 2001

She’s a post-Katrina carpetbagger.
Looks like this Crista Rock character is originally from Ohio, and came to New Orleans following Katrina, to hitch her career to the news coverage of the city’s travails. Can we put her on a train back up north, please? I don’t want my hometown infested with anymore of this kind of negative energy. (Scroll to the bottom of her resume on the posted link.)

They are doing the same thing Elon Musk got called a Nazi for. It’s hard to tell because of the number of people in front of them on the float, but they are tapping their heart first. And one kid has been doxxed, with his high school identified. I’m so tired of these transplant Karens contaminating our culture. The IG poster’s most recent reel features a bunch of degenerates at one of the MG FQ parades. So that behavior is fine with her, but young men having fun on a float is not. *It’s so tiresome gif.*
St. Francisville.

Have enjoyed several visits there over the last few years. Each time we visit, I am impressed by how the town continues to improve on its assets. It is now a stop on the cruise lines that go up the MS river, and it’s not hard to see why. History, architecture, geography (with its rolling hills it feels like you’re in another state), a walkable main street, an evolving dining scene, and the many historic homes in its vicinity make it a compelling destination.
The junebug population in our neighborhood has been in decline for some time now. For years they were a dominant feature in our cats’ summer entertainment. No more.

Elaborate, please.
A friend rode awhile back. I believe the figure he was spending at the time was 10K.
A defense lawyer of my acquaintance represented a man who was accused of bestiality. The defendant justified his actions by claiming that the animal in question was on the endangered list. I guess in his mind if it had gone extinct he would have missed out on that opportunity.
Special beads are kept. Everything else gets donated to ArcGNO for recycling and resale. Dropped off a large bag filled with beads, balls and footballs there last week.

My mother used to make Christmas ornaments from the “pearl” necklaces that were so prized at one time. Most were given as gifts, but I still have a few. They are really lovely.

Here is a link to the ArcGNO drop-off sites:

It sucks when brilliant people who contribute to the body of human knowledge get snuffed out by the dregs of society, due in large part to lax, liberal law enforcement.

Yup. Years ago, a researcher studying ways to control Formosan termites was gunned down in the FQ during a botched robbery. I wish vengeance upon the a-hole who killed him every year during swarm season.

It’s my favorite except when I want grilled which St. Angela Merici ometimes has.

They do a good job there. Plus, it’s well-organized, with the two drive-thru lines, the ability to order ahead, and the convenience of paying with either cash or card. The ladies offering a selection of desserts is a nice bonus, as well.
We do this every year. Looking forward to my combo plate from St. Christopher’s shortly. I enjoy trying plates from different parts of the city, depending on which neighborhood I’m in that day. (Thank you to the archdiocese for sorting the churches by parish this year, rather than just listing them alphabetically.) Some are definitely more seasoned than others, but all give the satisfaction of contributing to a charitable cause.
