ve been saying this for months, don't awaken the sleeping giant. You really don't want to call him to step because when he steps its coming. Using history as an indicator it never ends well when he decides enough is enough.

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

They were not easily moved,
They were icy -- willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

Celts aren’t Saxons, but the results are similar.
Driving at night. My night vision has always sucked, but lately it seems to suck at dangerous levels. May have to pass on any after hours Christmas parties I get invited to.
Found out about a half-sister no one knew about that way also. Another half-sibling took the test, then asked if it, perchance, might be us. Dad got around.

They are watching a parade in NYC of all places and are clutching pearls because there are leftist ideas being shown during the events. Like what were you expecting?
I grew up watching this parade at my grandparents’ house every Thanksgiving, and I expect children today to be able to do the same. That’s what I am expecting!
Several years back, I had an extended stay there, helping her prepare for a move. As a condition of my assistance, I stipulated that she could not have that shite on in the common rooms. Every night, when she turned in, she’d crank her bedroom set as loud as she could. Felt like I was dealing with a teenager.
She’s hard of hearing. The volume is always turned up to eleven.
My mother has this crap on her bedroom television nonstop. Has led to some tense moments when visiting for longer than a day or two.
My sister-in-law. She’s from up North, but lives in the South. On her third husband. Former military. Ruins every family gathering I’ve ever attended.
Was supposed to be driving through there today. Could’ve been me.
I was looking over my Airbnb profile reviews last night, and they are all enthusiastically positive. Some of those stays were less than stellar for us, but I stayed upbeat, and worked with the homeowners to fix whatever problem had arisen. (In one case, a power company arrived to turn off the power due to nonpayment. They held off when I told them that we were STR guests. That rental was owned by several people, one of whom had obviously dropped the ball on paying the bill.) At times, I’ve had to request flexibility from my hosts, and they have all been very gracious about this. Good karma begets good karma.
Waited six episodes for Burns’ dismissive treatment of Robert Morris, the “Financier of the Revolution.” It’s unlikely that the revolution would have succeeded without Morris’ talented participation, but in Burns’ version, he was a war profiteer, who was mainly in it for himself. Morris expended considerable energy and personal treasure keeping the fledgling country afloat in various executive roles, and found himself and his fortune depleted by the time the conflict ended. It’s a shame that he attempted to recoup what had been hazarded via land speculation, and found himself in debtor’s prison for three years, after his valiant service to the republic. Burns’ historian, whose name I didn’t catch, treats him with contempt.
I used to wonder about this re: Elizabethan times. Was told by a historian that couples didn’t marry until they could establish their own household.

For example, Jefferson primarily wrote the intro to the Declaration. “We hold these truths…” Yet he owned many slaves and fathered a child with one.
The child that Sally Hemings bore was probably fathered by Jefferson’s brother Randolph, who enjoyed hanging out with the slaves. DNA evidence does not conclusively prove that it was Jefferson’s, only that there is a connection to the Jefferson family.
Thank you for sharing this perspective.

Thanksgiving is a day where we shuffle around town to eat too much and deal with family we don’t care to see the rest of the year.
Wrong! Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday over time. I love the fall season, and taking time after Halloween to enjoy a slower pace, before things pick up again in December just feels right. We are foodies, so spending the month dreaming over cookbooks, and planning special meals is a perennial pleasure. Replacing our seasonal reminder to cultivate gratitude in favor of the metastasizing frenzy of consumption is a sad, soul-devouring loss.
Does anyone one remember the British couple who were attacked while sleeping rough on Esplanade Ave. in the Quarter? The woman was left with brain damage. Her fiancé, whose idea it had been to sleep there, abandoned her when they got back to Blighty. He married another, with whom he had a family, forsaking the woman who suffered the worst consequences of his bad judgment. At least this poor bastard is surrounded by those who love him.

Those sugar daddy caramel things suck!
Take that back! They are awesome!
We went last year with a friend who has had hip surgery. He walked all around the Fest, but I could tell it was a struggle. I had trouble dealing with the gravel, which is large chunks, like street-grade fill, not smaller pea-sized gravel. There are level sections near the front of the Fest, but if you go further towards the rear, where the jousting and bird demonstrations are, it gets hilly and harder to walk comfortably. Bless you for trying to do something fun for your friend with mobility challenges. The D-Day Museum will be crowded due to Veterans Day, but it’s very easy to navigate.
