I like Haydel's because it's more of a pastry than a conventional cake...

can y'all tell me other places that do the same sort of cake?

if you mean crystal weddings (in the lafayette area), they were very good many years ago...they were very comparable to keller's and quite a bit cheaper...a few years ago, i ordered one and was very disappointed...they no longer use the danish pastry recipe, so it is a glorified donut now...i ordered chocolate caramel pecan cream cheese, and it had zero caramel or cream cheese, a watery chocolate sauce and a total of 2 pieces of pecan

Man, not sure if you got a bad batch or I got a good one, but I picked one up while I was getting boudin from Billy's and thought it was great.

The best King Cake is always Manny Randazzo's, and I don't want to hear anything else on the matter.

Cannata’s

How good are these? There's a cajun market in Colleyville that plans on selling some of these.

I had the cannatas shipped to me and was super disappointed. I’d rate it a step above a Walmart cake. Not even close to the level of a Keller’s or dong phoung

For all those who liked the old Alois J Benders Bakery in New Orleans. The kids have been making king cakes for a couple few years and it’s growing. Try Jay’s King Cake, not bad.

The Blueberry/Cream Cheese King Cake from LeFille,Son Chien,LePain is probably best King Cake I've ever had...its very hard to get because of the availability of fresh blueberries (she doesn't use frozen only fresh blueberries). She's at the farmers market in Lafayette every Sat...selling her stuff..its all great..She should have her own store front but she wants to also continue to teach yoga at REDS everyday in addition to being lil miss baker!

Caught the 4:00 news yesterday and they did a segment on the new Ideal Market on Burbank making tres leches king cakes. They soak them in 3 different types of milk.

The head baker sounded like an awesome lady and was very proud to mix her Latina heritage with Louisiana (she said she feels Louisiana is just as much her culture now).

Anyway, I headed there this morning to pick one up and it is gorgeous. The entire bakery is gorgeous. Definitely will be coming back next time I need a birthday cake.

I’ll report back on the king cake as soon as I cut into it.
