Their King Cake has a lot of fanfare historically for a grocery chain. It's not bad. Not sure if it's my favorite though. Calandro's is pretty good.

Anyone know of the status of Acadian Bakery in Houston? Are they reopening?

I am not sure where we got them but back in the day we had some great ones in Chalmette. King cake parties were always legit.

of course, our dickhead safety mgr won't allow community food. so, bringing king cakes to work is forbidden.

It's not traditional, but Berrytown in Hammond has one that's essentially a big deep fried donut

I've been there, but haven't had the King Cake. Added since you've recommended them.

Is that where everyone writes their wifes name on a baby and puts it in the cake?

wtf? never heard of this. Randazzo's at least has the balls to still put the baby in the cake.

Manny Fresh Randazzo's is the best imo. The other Randazzo's is ok (Nonna's or something idr). Best cheap place is Rouse's, Caluda's, or even Albertson's in a pinch.
