Caluda's is amazing. I've never understood the love for Randazzo's sprinkle cakes...

I see that Dong Phoung has some resellers in baton rouge, has anyone had luck getting one from one of these guys?

I’m shocked I have not seen any of you list my favorite place to pick up King cakes.

Cajun Pecan House- Galliano, La

Bavarian Cream / Strawberry filling

Best I’ve ever had. It is a slightly different take. The bread is soft.

This thread reminded me to get My order in...

While your answer is correct, although I go strawberry creamcheese, I’m sorry to tell you but Cajun Pecan House is deep in the heart of Cut Off. Not Galliano.

My apologies, haha.

That 10 minutes from Cut-Off down 3235 does make a difference.

I received a Caluda's King Cake today from a mystery person. It's not bad. Caluda's isn't answering the phone to tell me who sent it.

My Randazzo's is coming in tomorrow. I'll have to compare the two.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Manny Randazzo ex wife is/was part of this company.

Tried the crystal weddings king came from Billy’s today. Pecan praline and strawberry and cream cheese. It’s good but not on dong phoung or Keller’s level.

Broadstreet Bakery in Jackson beats all these easily. King Cake game is weak here.

I’m guessing it’s a nostalgia thing for New Orleans people? Because they’re objectively not that good in any way and I’ve never seen anyone try to explain specifically why they think they’re so good. Randazzo’s is about a 6.5/10 on a good day

Why is dong phoung not traditional?

I guess its more croissant like, but its not really different. Calandros is also more flaky like dong phoung....

IMO its much better than any of the others. ITs my favorite by far.

Got one at Bao in Prarieville. Had to order it like 2 weeks in advance.

I'd also nominate Debbie Does Doberge's king cake for best non-traditional. Delicious!

Had a Brennan's strawberry last week and it was delicious. We got a Brennan's chocolate today and will try it tonight. It is black and gold. Too bad the Saints are not still playing but if it is anywhere close to being as good as the pink strawberry (we are getting another one of those for Valentines) I will be happy.

Here is my review of the Brennan's king cakes - The chocolate is pretty good but the strawberry is much better.
