A local private high school applied and received PPP. No teachers or administrators were let go...and tuition had been paid or was being paid. It is my understanding there were no receivable problems with tuition.

If tuition had been paid or was being paid by parents, how is a private high school allowed to collect PPP funds?

I am looking forward to seeing the upgraded athletic facilities this fall.

You didn’t actually have to be negatively impacted by covid-19 to get the money. You had to fear you would be negatively
Impacted now or in the near future.

Private schools make 75-80% of their money from aftercare.

If you were a teacher you’d understand the struggle. Going online has made their job from 12 hours a day 6 days a week to 24 hours a day 7 days a week because the internet doesn’t close like the school does

...that's definitely on the table for private schools.

It's intent was to keep these types of businesses from laying people off while things (hopefully) stabilize. It is/was definitely expensive.

it Can cover utilities and rent as well. Whatever is not used for staff and rent/utilities must be paid back if I understand it correctly.

This. Lots of employees furloughed from day cares at private schools. Lots of loss of income from that area, as well as -as you have pointed out- after care programs.

That’s a very important part of the equation, and it’s basically a little more than a rumor at this point.

Were there any events or a big fundraiser they had to cancel?

Is the school affiliated with a church?

The school is probably like a lot of other businesses and organizations that received funds despite being impacted very little financially by the shutdown. However, it’s possible they were impacted a lot more than you think.

A lot of businesses- manufacturing and industrial, for example, aren’t affected right this moment because their orders/jobs that were started before all this are still being filled, but they may need that money 6 months or a year from now when the lag catches up to them. If the school’s enrollment is down next year because people can’t afford to enroll next year, they’ll have that nest egg to fall back on, if necessary.

Is a private high school not a business?

Negative impact was not a requirement.

Also, who knows what the future holds.

There could be major problems in the coming months.

(I’m against the program, FYI, but virtually every business with employees could qualify)

What happens is people go into this career thinking it will be some glorious job and realize it isn't. Then they go on Facebook and complain to try and receive the arse-kissing they thought they'd already have.

The private school my kid attends lost out on $65K at least on fundraising events being cancelled. Jazzfest was one of the big ones.
