Yea, I'm sure there is some benefit that makes traffic flow better, but it's not immediately apparent just by looking at the picture. Someone want to explain why this is better?

I think from looking it makes the interstate exits go to the airport easier / better / faster (and maybe take up less site area) but just a guess

I like to think of myself as a pretty intelligent person but I have zero idea how this is supposed to help traffic. Looks like a joke.

Is it a joke? Are we low key being trolled? How does crossing traffic twice help with traffic?

There are fewer conflict points (areas where one driving motion would result in a crash with another driving motion), and the crossing distance for left turns is significantly lessened so you can get more people turning left in a shorter amount of time. So less traffic backup waiting to turn. Plenty of other things too.

Advantages. Two-phase signals with short cycle lengths, significantly reducing delay. Reduced horizontal curvature reduces the risk of off-road crashes. Increases the capacity of turning movements to and from the ramps.

looks like you don't need arrows because there are no left turns across traffic. one direction is green and other is red or vice versa.

If you say so. (Thank you for the insight though. truly)

I feel stupider now. Perhaps I need to go do some brain games. Just not seeing it!

Correct, the idea is to get traffic flowing from a previous point to that more cars can make left hand turns without conflicting points.

I'll ask when I go back to work. Honestly most of the airlines don't want to go to the new airport. Our regional manager came in for a tour and he told us that this is the first time that a new or redesigned airport was built and nothing we asked for was done. One thing I will say is that parking should never be an issue (at least for the passengers) once the new airport opens.

I am sure that is the estimated time. They have to factor in weather, unexpected problems that happen on construction sites, etc.

If you think about the Loyola I-10 intersection right now, coming from North Kenner southbound on Loyola, if you want to get onto I-10 east, you have to stop at the red light on the westbound side of I-10 (controlling the traffic coming off westbound 10 exit ramp) and you have to stop at the red light on the eastbound side of I-10 (to turn left onto the ramp).

If I understand this correctly, that second red light stop will be eliminated, as you won't have to turn left across the previously northbound traffic lanes.

This is the part i was missing and your example helps greatly! Not that many people would keep going southbound to vets so the traffic shouldnt be that bad.

good lord did I feel stupid.

Don't feel stupid... I've had to draw this out and think about it for it to make sense.

My example was traveling southbound Loyola, but really, where this is going to do the most good is northbound Loyola. My understanding is coming from the airport, headed to Laplace/BR, there won't be a direct connector. So, the diverging diamond will help with that traffic to get on the 10 west on-ramp.

Its cheaper, and more efficient than Cloverleafs.

Here are 2 related news flashes:
1) Gilcrest Construction Company has severely over-rated the driving acumen of the average citizen of the great state of Louisiana

2) Gordon McKern LOVES this concept.

Dear lord think of the accidents. Nobody pays attention to red lights and people here have no idea how to even do a four way stop when the traffic lights are blinking.

Change orders, change orders, and more change orders. Drag your feet and try to skimp by with a skeleton crew, while you bid the job with twice the labor hours than you're using. Work slow as molasses during the mild weather months and fail to take advantage of said weather, and scramble because you didn't take into account that there will be bad weather for weeks at a time in the late spring, summer, and early fall.
