Most of these frickers around here can't maneuver a traffic circle. This will be funny as hell.

They built one in Asheville. Took about 18 months start to finish

So if you are on and staying on the nonhighway road you have to go through 2 lights just to get across the intersection?

You just go straight and there's a traffic light to regulate. Unless you're a moron and take a left or right where you can't do so, you'll be fine.

You've been to Louisiana, right?

This would be the same thing with a non diverging diamond interchange. One light for each left turn motion. They're not adding any more signals than usual.

LA drivers can barely handle 10 miles of straight road, with no on or off traffic, on the Bonnet Carrie

This is exponentially easier than a traffic circle.

You literally just follow the road in front of you.

I'm guessing the diverging diamond is for Loyola traffic onto the interstate? (Edit: Now that I see pics of this, I get it)

If there is a direct connector off ramp from 10 West to the airport, and from the airport to 10 East, then I'm confused as to why we really need a diverging diamond on Loyola, as most of the traffic will be on the direct connector ramps.

construction is anticipated to begin in early 2020, with an estimated completion of mid to late 2023.

How is it even possible that this will take 3.5 years? 20 miles of the Katy Freeway, including two MASSIVE interchanges at the beltway and 610, were totally rebuilt, feeder roads and all, in 6 years.

Are they only working 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, and taking summers off?

Yes. They have had to replace chunks of concrete that collapsed.

I'm not a traffic engineer, so can someone explain the benefits of this design as apposed to a straight overpass...

You only have to control the north and southbound lanes via light.

The East and Westbound lands you dont stop.

Yea, I'm sure there is some benefit that makes traffic flow better, but it's not immediately apparent just by looking at the picture. Someone want to explain why this is better?

Looking at it, I guess it takes less land as with a clover design...
