re: What is the largest animal a grown man could defeat with his bare hands?

This was my first thought, because they are domesticated and docile. Striking a cow probably wouldn't be effective. A skilled man might be able to jump on its back and apply a lethal modified choke, but that docile cow would likely buck a person off in a second when their survival mode kicks in. Then you would have to wrestle with an animal many times your weight.

"What kind of bastard would attack a manatee?"
Hey I like them, but they don't have big teeth or claws; they can't kick me. What would they do to me, sit on me?
I've never heard of a manatee hurting a person. Im not sure how I'd take the manatee, but I think I'd have a long time to find its weakness. So, I still stick w my original answer.
(I'd rather fight a 100ld golden retriever than a 50 lb pit bull. )
(And I do remember something about a drunken frat guy attacking one of the LSU ostrich years ago, but manatees are bigger.)
And for the cow, a direct attack is out, but on the right terrain, maybe dig some gopher type holes and hope you get lucky with the bovine breaking a leg-

I'm not reading 8 pages, but I'm going with the oceanic sunfish. I'm sure you might be able to come up with a plausible way to block a whale's blow hole or something, but nothing packs on the pounds and puts up as little a fight as the oceanic sunfish.

The lesson of these threads is always that people apparently think that animals are invincible, and the average person doesn't have the strength to pick up a 5 lb weight.

Probably because they look like giant Maxipads.

People can outrun a horse. In a hot environment humans are the best long distance runners in the world. This isn't a debate.

Male ostrich guarding an egg killed man and his wife up in Union Parish. Man went into the pen and didn't return. Wife investigated, saw him laying in the enclosure and went after him, and was also killed. Ostrich is not a prey animal.

This is assuming the human is in good shape which most aren’t. Some people can’t even walk up a flight of stairs without breathing hard.

I mean, killing lions and tigers with bare hands was a thing. Very very rare but it did happen.
I did see a picture of some explorer who got attacked by a jaguar in the middle of the night that he killed with his bare hands. His arm got jacked but he was fine

This thread wasnt about a marathon with animals, it was about defeating an animal with your hands, not your feet.
Can you outrun a dog on your hands?

Yeah people can't read. A wild horse would make quick work of you. I just watched a video of 2 lions attacking a horse at a circus for about 5 minutes and the horse was still standing. There is nothing you could do to hurt a horse with your bare hand.
Wtf you gonna do to a horse with your bare hands???

There are people on the first page answering "wolf"
Have you seen the average man these days? Stop by your local Wal Mart and tell me which unarmed, waddling biscuit-eater is going to choke an average wolf to death

Speak for yourself, I could totally take a 200 pound tortoise.

I haven’t spent much time around cows. If a man starts kicking a cow in the throat, what would it do? Run away? Just stand there? Charge?

Back in the Middle Ages, a Byzantine emissary went to meet with a Norman army. A big Norman went up to the emissary’s horse and pinched it in the head so hard it dropped dead.
This is before Europeans all became trannies, and perhaps the Norman wore chain mail, but still.

Apparently, a manatee can be defeated with a bucket of water.
