Barehanded? Was the ostrich on guard or caught off guard? I know of a rather strong guy who was beaten pretty badly by an ostrich defending it's turf.

Because of our brains. We are the weakest, slowest, and have poor night vision.

One on one, no weapons we are fricked against almost anything bigger than dogs. Even dogs would be tough to beat.

A grown man may be able to snap an ostriches neck, but we’re extremely weak animals for our size. Any other animal around our size or larger I can’t really think of one we could beat in single combat. The ostrich has an obvious weakness though.

It's not that we're weak it's that we're built for a different purpose.

Strength doesn't exist in the animal kingdom just for the sake of it. It's a necessity.

We can run until other animals basically pass out from oxygen deprivation.

only problem is most would catch us long before they was exhausted.

so yeah if it was a race to see which animal could finish a marathon first, we have an advantage.

but it’s not.
it’s can you run far enough quick enough to avoid getting caught and killed.

a horse catches and stomps your arse in less than 100yards.

and that’s not even an animal that evolved to catch prey from behind.

Excuse me for carrying a caloric surplus for when I'm having a marathon against a fricking cheetah.

I understand why it's needed for this discussion, but it sucks that we have to give up our greatest gift, by far.

As for the topic at hand, I think a human could beat a manatee.

Swim up to it, latch onto its back, and start biting chunks out of the back of its neck until you have a hole big enough to start digging around with your hands. It'll die eventually.

I’ve never thought you were a dumb poster, but what we’re saying is if you put a cheetah and a human both in top physical shape in a marathon, the human would almost certainly. There’s a difference between a hundred meter dash and a marathon. How do you not process what we are saying?

I never saw anything about a marathon.

My understanding is that the thread is about a fight to the death using only your bare hands. I agree with you about a long distance race.

You piqued my interest and I do see that a giraffe can cover long distances at 10 mph comfortably so that one gets interesting. That's a 6 minute mile pace which obviously an elite marathoner could beat but not the average joe.

How are you going to prevent the manatee from diving down and drowning you? It can damn sure hold its breath longer than you can.

A human should be able to choke a cow.

Well, a human can certainly choke a chicken.
