unless you want to be hustled every 5 seconds, no.

Yes...just be weary at night

If you do leave the resort, make sure you put on one of those rasta hats with the fake dreadlocks. You'll blend in and lessen your chances of getting shot.

yes, but be careful.
they love tourists as it is a major part of their income, but the area is very poor.
the best food you will find will be in the little stops off the side of the road.

If you're a traveler, yes. If you booked an all-inclusive, no.

Here is what we were told by security:
"Suuuure. Of course it's safe! Pfffttt. Uh...just leave you money, and credit cards, and watches, and jewelry in your hotel. And don't stay out after dark. Haaaave fun!"
We stayed at the resort.

Yes. It's no different than any other place, just don't be stupid.
I swear some of y'all live in a bubble and have no sense of adventure.

Depends.
The wife and I took our honeymoon to Montego Bay.
We were safe when we took the shuttle bus to the mall at Rose Hall and when we went on a tour group to Ocho Rios to climb a waterfall and swim with the dolphins, but the guides had to be careful to warn us of certain things that the locals would do to ensure both our safety and to not get ripped off.
You can hire a cab for the day to take you wherever and go it on your own, but I'd rather be part of a tour group from the resort because there's safety in numbers and, besides that, the resorts and tour companies will bust their arse to keep you safe to save their own hides.

How do you think sll the cosmopolitan OTers soak up the local cultures of the shitholes they vacation in? By leaving the resort?!
