Having Lasik done in a few weeks. Those who've done it: what was your experience like day of and few days after the procedure? How soon were you up and doing your normal routine?

I got the surgery on a Thursday. Friday I felt fine but blurry vision and dryness. Saturday morning after I woke up, I could see better than ever. Dealt with dryness for a couple of months but the eye drops help.
One of the best decisions I’ve ever made and should have done it sooner.

Had mine done about 14 years ago, so I'm sure some things have changed, but I had to keep both eyes patched overnight, but when I took them off in the morning it was amazing and I drove myself to the doctor for the follow-up appointment.

The Warden had it done about 15 years ago.
Back then you went home with some light bandages and very dark shades. The bandages were taken off the next morning. Shades were only temporary, too.
She was amazed when she woke up on the second day and could see the time on the alarm clock.
I don't believe it lasts, though- at least the older procedure.
She's back to needing readers.

Blurry-ish vision the day of but the valium and ambien mixture let me sleep damn near all of that off.. Was immensely better the next day. You do steroid and anti-biotic drops for a week or so after.
Best $$ I have ever spent and wish I would have done it way sooner.

Same, with the drops, drown your eyes, faster recovery.

Had it done on a Monday. By Wednesday, I didn't even notice anything except for needing eyedrops every now and then. Was in Colorado snow skiing by the next week. Lasik is easy.

I was the 2nd surgery on the books that Friday morning 12 years ago. Left the office after surgery and my eyes were burning and pouring water. Went home and took the Xanax they gave me and took a 2-3 hour nap. When I woke up, the burning was gone and my vision was perfect. Next several weeks involved lots of drops, and my right eye needed a touch up (final vision was 20/40, I think), so that delayed full recovery, but I never had any trouble with dry eye. I drove myself to the follow up the next morning.
Worst part of recovery was visual- they busted a bunch of blood vessels in both eyes, so I looked like I either lost a fight or got in a car accident for about 4 weeks. It had no effect on my vision, I just had to explain it for a while.
The one thing the doctors didn't tell me that I wish they would have- when they laser your eyes, it smells like burnt hair. Other than that, the procedure was very easy and painless.

How old is she? Lasik does not fix/cure the natural aging of the eye- it does not delay needing readers. That's why I had mine done at 30, so I could have 15-20 years of good vision. I'm in year 12, and I can tell my vision is already changing. I probably could use readers.

Lasik was one of the decision i have ever made.
I had an abnormal recovery from what i was told. Everything was great for the 1st few days after, then all of the sudden my vision would get very cloudy after about 2 hours of being awake each day. It was a severe dry eye condition that took about a month to recover from with opening of the tear ducts, Xiidra and lots of eye drops. My Dr. said it was very rare to happen this bad.
All in all, after recovery it was still a great decision and i could not be more happy with my eyesight now.

Take eye drops religiously after the surgery. I didn't listen and irritation from dry eyes has been hitting hard a year after I got Lasik.

Do the surgery in afternoon and sleep through the night with eye patches.
Vision was blurry the next mornign until they took out the "protective contacts", but I definitely wouldn't have been able to drive myself because my eyes were SUPER sensitive to light until after they got the contacts out.
I would say by the 4th day i could see to the same level i did previously without my glasses.
5-7 days I could see plenty good to do everything, and ~10 days later I got the sharpness at long distances and 20/20 vision.

When you get home from surgery, take 2 shots of Nyquil and sleep for 8 hours or as much as you can. After that, it's pretty easy. Everyone here is basically saying the same thing, so you should take it as truth.
Good luck, I'm going on 20 years now after surgery. It's a great decision.

Got mine done in 2016. My vision was horrible. The lenses on my glasses used to be an inch thick.
Went in that morning and was out in about an hour. Took some meds and slept most of that day off. I remember waking up the next morning and immediately being able to read the clock on the wall. It's a moment I'll never forget. Took a few weeks for me to stop reaching for my glasses out of habit.
Eight years later and it's one of the best personal decisions I've ever made. 20/20 vision still.

The recovery isn't bad. They will have you in goggles and a shade to drive home. You are still going to want to close your eyes while you ride. I would even suggest a towel or something over your face just because light will be really intense.
When you go home just plan on sleeping it off for the rest of the day.
Make sure that you use all of the eyedrops that they prescribe, and when they prescribe you to use them. The worst part of the recovery will be dry eyes, and the drops do help.
Also, make sure you actually go to all of your follow up appointments with the doctor. When I talked to mine she told me that you would be shocked at how many just go the next day and the don't show up for the follow ups.
They will probably tell you to wear your goggles at night for 5-7 days. Make sure you do. You do not want to inadvertently rub your eyes when you sleep.

The poster saying light is intense is spot on. Another person saying get it in the afternoon is something I wish I had thought about. I seemingly couldn’t get my bedroom dark enough the first several hours after getting home. My eyes burned like hell for pretty much the entire first day.
That said, it’s been ~5 years since the surgery and I still have 20/12 in one eye and 20/15 in the other. Best decision I ever made.

Just make sure your significant other hasn’t gifted you “the gift of sight” with a half-off coupon.

I got it done this past March on a Friday. No pain whatsoever just annoyances avoiding contact with eyes and wearing guards. You’ll be fine.
Keep up with the eye drop schedule.
