Same with water spiraling down a toilet.

Hydrodynamics in the design of the toilet have way more to do with this than the coriolis forces

I've heard that before. What is there about point of the planet that causes that?

Because of the earths rotation to the east:

For all of those who plan to visit Equator towns one day.

DON’T fall for the water circle trick they perform there. They will show you how water circles differently on either side of the equator in two separate water tubs.

Problem is, the Coriolis doesn’t govern water drainage circulation. If you watch closely, they pour the water in different sections of the tub that forces the water to spin the direction they want.

My dad told me about the Coriolis effect on toilets while we were taking a plane trip across the equator. I waited until the plane was right over the equator and went to the lavatory to test it out. The vacuum flush was a big disappointment,

I flushed a bunch of toilets in Indonesia last month.

Flushed the same as they do in Arkansas.

Mark Rober recently put out a video busting the myth of toilets and drains flowing differently based on the equator

The Coriolis is ubiquitous on earth. Anything moving on the earth will experience this force orthogonal to that object.
It's the principle behind Coriolis flow meters.
The Coriolis force is real and ubiquitous, no doubt. However as I said the Coriolis effect is not a predictor in the rotation of water in a toilet. Nor a sink nor a bathtub. These scales are so small that the water would have to be perfectly still and the stopper perfectly released and the basin and drain perfectly shaped so as not to influence the rotation. And hold your breath. Even tornadoes do not always turn the expected way, because even at that scale the Coriolis force is very slight. Their rotation is influenced by the greater storm system that they are a part of.

When my brother and SIL got back from Kenya, he was bragging about watching how this worked. I hated to disappoint him (not really!) but I told him it was a scam. He was pissed off since he had paid for that demonstration and had a certificate to prove it.

So wait... does that mean that costal countries at or near the equator don't have hurricanes?

They also spin clockwise below the equator.

If one managed to cross the equator would it reverse its rotation? I assume that’s why they can’t, as it approaches the equator it would essentially fall apart

I have heard in long range gun shooting (>1000 yrds), like with snipers they have to factor in the Coriolis effect and curvature of the earth, when aiming at their target.

Also I heard the Germans V2 rockets lacked accuracy when they were shooting them at Great Britain cause they did not have Coriolis effect figured out in missile guidance.
