What do you expect Lane to do to keep the media and fans from turning it into a circus?
Seriously, Laned didn't do anything. He said from the begin that he does not do contract negotiations until after the season, and he has not done anything to deviate from his statement.
This circus is generated by fanbases on the other coach-less schools and sports reports looking for an exclusive.

If I was an OM fan I think I’d be pissed.
Why? As long as the Ole Miss team is not distracted, I think it's funny and strategic. From the players' media interviews, there are no signs that the players are distracted by this saga. Players are talking about watching college football this Saturday, going to the shooting range, and deer season.
It is funny because the meltdowns by UF/LSU fanbases multiply daily.
It is strategic because UF, LSU, Auburn, Ark, and Penn State are essentially in limbo, a headless snake in the death throes of a wasted season and uncertainty of the next seasons which will just magnify the remaining SEC teams.

Maybe for some diehard Ole Miss fans with the dread of past pre-Kiffin Ole Miss era disappointments (like Tuberville leaving)... they might not like what is happening, but majority of the Ole Miss fanbase understand the situation and they are just enjoying this season.
What is interesting is that the Ole Miss athletic department has not utter a word regarding Kiffin other than his extension is on the table. The threat of the ultimatum was according to Kiffin untrue.
The Ole Miss team from the players' recent media conferences, appeared to be focus and not distracted by this circus. We have not seen any leaks or social media unfollows, unlikes, deleted posts etc... that commonly seen from player dissatisfactions. Except from other schools like DJ Lagway following Lane on IG...
Most of the meltdowns are from other fanbases especially UF and LSU because the uncertainty is killing them, they are stuck in limbo, hoping for Lane to come, but terrified of the possibility that waiting could cause their current players hitting the transfer portal and decommitments of HS recruits.
I think Lane and his team are laughing at all the LSU/UF fanbase meltdowns while other fanbases are trying to egg them on.

So why didn’t Florida fire Napier after the end of last season?
Do they believe that he was going to turn his team 180 from the results of his past 3 years?

Maybe Florida should've kept Napier until the end of the season, at least Florida will still have a HC to sell to the current players and future HS recruits, now Florida is rudderless football program floating aimlessly with 4 other programs in an ocean with only one big fish.

Guess Florida finally figured out that Lane was trolling them?
Does this have anything to do with DJ Lagway following Kiffin on IG?

I have no idea what he does with his time
Playing the long game… if he can make a D2 quarterback into a top SEC playoff contender, what can he do with a 5-star DJ Lagway at Ole Miss?

Why does Florida fans and some LSU fans want our coach so bad?
Because they made a big mistake, they made an emotional decision to fired their coaches mid-season without the consideration of a potential replacement and the timing to get their replacement.
These schools continue to making emotional decisions in hiring their next coach. Lane appeared to be the quickest fix because if he is their new coach then everything will be sparkles and rainbows...
Texas A&M had gone through their emotional hire of Jimbo, so they wisely and logically hired a lesser known coach from Duke. Notice Auburn is out of the Lane sweepstakes, they emotionally hired Freeze in 2022 because Lane said no. Now I think Auburn will make a wiser more logical hire... or they can just be Auburn...

If Lane is leaving after all that mess
What mess?
The mess that other fanbases melting down because Lane is trolling you for firing your HC mid-season without a potential back-up candidate to take over?
The mess of a program stranded in limbo having to wait until the college football is over to even begin to re-build?
The mess of the uncertainty of settling on a coach that the fanbase is not enthuse about in order to keep your current players from transferring and HS players from de-committing?
I don't think that there is a mess in Oxford, the team is focus, and the majority of Ole Miss fans are enjoying this season and the playoffs.

Ole Miss shouldn't let Lane coach the playoff if he is leaving. Especially after this clown show.
It would seem that the only people having a melt down over this 'clown show' are Florida/LSU fans. Apparently the Ole Miss team are pretty chill from their recent media interviews.
They appeared to be focus and enjoying their off week, talking about watching college football this Saturday, shooting at the range, and deer hunting... They address the coaching situation, but not talking like a team that's about to lose their coach.

Saying a degree from OM is a measure of intelligence is pretty stupid
My degree from OM got me into med school, and my daughter is about to get as degree from Ole Miss in May and she'll be going to med school next August.

If he bails, Ole Miss would be right to burn him in effigy
Except nothing is coming out from Ole Miss players, coaches, athletic department, or administration… No meltdowns, no accusations, no leaks, no speculations, not even the obligatory minimization of Kiffin’s importance ‘the our program wins the games not a single coach’ dismissal talk, or the passive aggressive social media unfollows, unlike, and unfriending…
All the players, coaching staff, and athletic department appear to be focus on the next game, no one appeared to be distracted by all the external noise, not even Kiffin.
Last Saturday, they played perhaps their biggest game in school history with their playoff chances on the line against a team trying to poach their coach. The team played and the coaches coached without any uncertainty… like perhaps they already know something.
The only people melting down are on the message boards especially UF and LSU fans, the few Ole Miss fans conditioned for disappointment, and sports reporters on TV and YouTube because they don’t have an ‘ insider executive’ to lead their channels with.

Have there been any indications that the team is pissed?
The entire team and the athletic department have been pretty quiet throughout this entire circus, no leaks, no rumors, no backlashes, no one is unfollowing or purging their social media likes and follows... they are just enjoying this season and focus on the next game... despite the multi-school fan melt-downs and 'insider' exclusives.
Almost like that they are in on the joke...

re: Lane said he hasn't been given an ultimatum...
Posted by Lokistale on 11/18/25 at 2:52 pm to Gator Fever
Clearly people can see this game:
Lane is stringing Florida and LSU along trolling them yes, but more important to delay both schools from getting their next HC hoping to force their current players into the transfer portal and delay HS commitments.
To further fuel this bonfire, he floated this ‘Ole Miss ultimatum’ to make the other schools really believe that he is going somewhere.

Simple answer: the consistency of expected food, may not be the best food, but you know what you are going to get regardless if an Olive Garden in San Francisco, St. Louis, Raleigh, or Omaha.

I'm sure the global stats would show naltrexone as much more effective than 12-step.
The underlying problem is not which is more effective, the main issue is rather the mental patient and/or addict truly desires help.
Naltrexone, AA, and anti-psychotic/anti-depressant meds can all help, but the person has to want to take them.
