Does not matter, what does matter is how this fiasco will affect LSU's chance to get their next coach.
If they wanted Lane or similar caliber HC coach, and they have other options with similar offers, why would he even consider an institution that would not honor their contract?
LSU do not have the moral high ground regardless of their claim (unless something truly hideous like CP), LSU honored Orgeron's buyout and supposedly he did some sketchy things while HC of LSU.

Did LSU fire Coach O for cause?
Because he was rumored of doing some sketchy things as LSU HC, I thought LSU just gave him his buy-out.
LSU cannot take the moral high road, they paid one coach to go away and try not to paid another.

LSU just made their HC job radioactive to top coaches that have other HC job options.

2. The longer the other schools have to wait for an answer the more time they will waste on keeping their current players from transferring and future recruits from committing
3. Lane can wait, it's not like these jobs are once in a lifetime opportunity... more HC jobs (even the HC same jobs) will open up in the next few years.

Yet, in the era of NIL, teams that were perennial powerhouses no longer have the advantage of legacy.
Now any team can make a run 10 wins and a National Championship especially with the playoffs. Look at some of last year's playoff teams: Boise State, Arizona State, SMU?
The problem is that the fanbases of these legacy teams still expect their teams to be undefeated and in contention for a natty year after year like the olden days... and if a HC cannot deliver those impossible results and have 1-2 year of mediocre results... his job is a risk. Look what Bama people were saying after just one game this season.
We have season tickets with parking in the 1st level of the Pavilion. Get out of car and the entrance l gate is just outside the door.
