I have an EE. The only thing id probably change is pushing myself to do more IPSec work. It's almost recession proof.

if I could go back to 2005, no way in hell I'm going to college. I'm going to work at a factory making good money and dumping every last penny I have into FAANG stocks.

Buckle down and focus in college. Get an electrical engineering degree. Start IBEW apprenticeship immediately after college. Get my journeyman ticket.

Now I can do either.

I'd be an airline pilot. Wide body Captains at AA will make approx 700K a year working about 16 days a month. Some will push it and probably with premium trips make over 1MM in 2024.

Maybe start consulting earlier, and stick with contract work rather than getting into management. But really, pretty happy with my career path so far.

The other option would be to go into hospital pharmacy, but I really enjoy being able to work from home.

I basically didn’t start my career until 27 because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I’d have gotten my undergrad in some business field and tried a lot harder to get internships and work experience. I’m finally where I want to be at 34 but I could have got here a lot sooner.

I’d have picked same engineering field only would have additionally went active duty Air Force for 10 years and then switched to AF Reserves for another 15. I have a few coworkers who went that route with really cheap healthcare and pensions.

WB CA is a very small % of the ~16k pilots at AA. You wouldn’t be able to hold that until 60. 30 years of flying dogshit A320 schedule or right seat 787 or 777.

I've enjoyed being a cop, but if I were to start today, I'd probably be a fireman instead. Same pay scale, better hours, and less bullshite.

I'd just go get a trade. Something that pays well. Screw all the other stuff

The Navy. It’s relatively untouched by the enemy, great benefits and I’d be on 100% disability due to headaches and needing contacts in addition to my Navy retirement by now. I talk to way too many former military folks who are on total disability due to common stuff everyone has and they are making $70k a year just sitting back collecting disability and retirement at age 40. Ridiculous but it makes me jealous

This is RAMPANT. Makes me think some people go into it with the express intention of getting disability. Look around at all the "Disabled Veteran" car tags in Alabama. They are everywhere.

I work with someone who is doing very well, making over 6 figures...is also "disabled" for some bullshite reason and is getting 40k or so per year, for life.

At this point it is more or less one of the recruitment inducements.

Investment advisor. Overpaid for giving out generic advice you can get off the money board.
