You got a plant list? Amazing job, I remember toy sharing pics of the shed build, now you have two!

The first one was an office for my wife. That one is finished and AC'd etc. The other doesnt even have electricity. Just for my mower and assorted crap storage.

I can rattle off most of the plants there. The biggest/showiest trees are Thunderhead Japanese Black Pines. I actually bought those from All Seasons nursery in Lafayette.

- Black Dragon Japanese Cedar (Tall-ish)
- Hollywood Juniper (tall-ish)
- Golden Mop false cypress
- Baton Rouge Japanese Maple
- 8 Cryptomeria Japonica Nana's (Japanese cedar)
- Assorted junipers (nanas, blue pacific, golden pacific, grey owl)
- A few soft touch hollys that I will shape into spheres when they get bigger

There's more, but that is mostly what is visible. Some of the things I planted were true experiments. A few have failed and have been replaced. Those were mostly Japanese white and black dwarf pines. I suspect the root stock was more the issue in our zone than the tree. I've replaced a few with new versions I bought in Atlanta last month.

Awesome, thanks. Definitely gonna steal some of these for my backyard landscaping.

palm trees seem like an easy choice....they’re the devil as they drop a lot of seeds/dates.

Year round practically, always dropping shite into the pool.

Had my gunite pool for 3 years now. Just added a chiller/heat pump yesterday. Waiting on electrician to wire it up. No more 94° water in July/August.
Fully electric? Bout how much does that run?

A pretty awesome feature some friends of ours have is a retractable cover. They press a button to open it in the morning or close it at night to keep the leaves/pollen out and to make sure the dogs don't fall in. It can also be automated to open and close on its own.

They also had some nice articulating umbrellas installed on the side. Can rotate the position and angle of the umbrella depending on where you want the shade.

For color, I like knock out roses as they provide year around color with relatively low maintenance but they do have thorns so their placement has to be out of the way of heavy traffic areas.

Same issue as the knockouts, but Crown of Thorns succulents (Euphorbia milii) in corten planters makes for great low maintenance near pool landscaping with some color.

Sago palms can be a pain for other reasons, but work really well near pools due to the low maintenance and not dropping seeds/fronds.

agreed, but they do make a great place to lay in the water and chill out on

Tanning ledge = ideal play area for young kids

If you don't have kids, I wouldn't bother with a tanning ledge, just buy a nice tanning float and pool hammock from frontgate. Same funcitonality and takes up less space.

As for pool luxury, we built ours with a paramount in-floor cleaning system.

My friend has this, my brother does not. My friends pool always seems cleaner than my brothers. And every time I'm swimming at my brothers, I'm having to dodge his stupid vacuum.

just my 2 cents
we did a very light plaster color and our pool rarely gets hot in the summer. ledge the length of the pool to chill, nothing over 6 foot unless you and your pool companions are tall it is just a waste a deep section because it gets rarely used. a gas heater and a water feature, lights- check placement so it does not shine back at you, bubblers, bar stools- love mine for watching the ball games, umbrella holders conveniently installed, low maintenance landscape with a privacy feature- put sweet viburnum all around that secludes the area and creates your own oasis- outside bathroom with handsink

Gas heater. Cheaply and quickly heated up the pool a few times already on those days it reached about 80. Cranked it on at about 8 am and by noon it was ready.

We have a seat across the back of the deep end for the kids and they love being able to grab onto it. Never an issue when they jump in.

I wish my deep end was 12’ deep instead of 6’.

chiller/heat pump

Honestly a waste imo. Especially with electric heat. Takes forever to warm up and cost $$$$$$. Just go with gas heater and nix the cooler.

Just run the fountain through the night on the 1 or 2 weeks that the water is too hot. Gas heater has allowed us to swim New Year’s Eve and all through March.

Ours was $2,574 for the 20k gallon chiller. I imagine it is significantly cheaper when it is installed with the pool.

Clean fill in two years' time.

This from a reformed 2-time pool owner.

That seems reasonable. I really thought I wanted one as my pool got hot as hell for a few weeks mid summer. But to my suprise, by the time end of summer got here it was really cool and comfortable again.
