Picked up a cream cheese Dong Phoung this afternoon. Very good. Very different. The icing takes getting used to though. Wasn't ready for the lightness and runniness. Slightly overhyped, but very good nonetheless. I don't think there is one head and shoulders above the rest. I'm a fatty though and like all king cake.

Yeah……put me in the Cajun Pecan House camp. They don’t miss. We’re eating on the wedding cake king cake from them this week. Their dough is more airy/fluffy and not as heavy. Still get those miles in so I don’t completely feel like crap

Must say that Oak Point in Central and Denham Springs have made quite an impression on me and mine. Many to choose from and fairly priced. Crème Brûlée is spectacular.

If you haven't tried one from Navarre bakery in Springfield, you need to. Best I've had.

Caluda's is doing everything right with their king cakes for me personally.

Why do people get so excited over glorified cinnamon rolls? Fatties will stand in a line at Manny Randazos at 5:00am but don’t have time to workout. It amazes me the stupidity of people.

then why bother with this thread? why even bother with the FDB when you obviously should be on the healt and fitness board?

Another vote. They also have an apple pecan praline pie that is divine. My parents used to live right down the street. I miss that.

Caluda's is underrated. You can get individual slices at PJs Coffee.

Had both a cream cheese and regular Dong Phuong last week and they were definitely subpar compared to years past. And it’s been my favorite king cake in the city the last few years. Hopefully it was a one time thing.

Keller's amaretto walnut - it's definitely the best in Lafayette, but possibly the world.

I had one last week and it is a very nice looking cake but personally I didn’t care for it. It had WAY too much rum in it. It reminded me of the rum cake at Christmas that no one ever eats. I actually gave it away to my son and his fiancé.

I had high hopes for this one, but I agree with your assessment. Beautifully decorated cake, but way too boozy. Like make you nauseous after eating.

Kellers in Lafayette by far the best.

A close second is the traditional French King Cake at Poupart Bakery in Lafayette:

Yes I am biased b/c I live in Lafayette. But I've also lived in BR and NOLA.

Bourg Supermarket icing is great. I'd love to get a hold of a fresh one.
