Are there no good Indian places in Louisiana?

The spots in BR, Nola and Lafayette have been underwhelming to say the least. Is Houston my closest option?

I went to Shyan's Kitchen in Metairie recently and I enjoyed it.

very good, as is Mantra in Metairie.
OP is correct though. Indian in Louisiana is good enough, but none of it compares to what Houston has. It's worlds apart.

I usually go to Taj Mahal in Metairie. It's good Indian food to me. I have no idea how traditional it may be or how it plays with someone of Indian ethnicity who grew up eating the real thing.
You could say the same thing about Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Cajun, Greek, "Middle Eastern", etc...

I like what I have gotten at the one in Alexandria, but I cannot say I know what good is when it comes to Indian.

I eat at Nirvana on Magazine or Taj Majal on Metairie Rd when in NOLA. Same owner whose family is from Mhow, India and opened the first Indian restaurants in New Orleans around 1980. Shalimar in the FQ and Keswani's in Uptown Square were their other restaurants in NOLA
Lafayette - Priya's is the real deal ; Masala is also pretty good

In BR, have you tried Curry n Kabab or Swagat? Both of those are very good.

My first Indian food in the early 90's was at India's on Essen. It was love at first bite. Having a buffet to try everything was awesome!
But then I discovered the Bay Leaf. India's must have gotten a new chef, because the food quality went down in the early 2000's. Plus, their bathrooms and carpets are disgusting. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like.
The Bay Leaf is clean, and the food is up there for BR. Swagat is damn good, too! Best Indian food I ever had was in England. Blew my socks off.
Any Baws in Bay Saint Louis, MS- Indian Paradise is excellent!
