I had some Indian techs, they thought Bay Leaf and Swagat, especially Swagat, were pretty good. The Indian couple who are neighbors like Bay Leaf, but they say it isn't spicy enough, it burns the hell out of me.

Swagath on Jones creek is decent in BR. It is not Houston good.
It is not Biryani pot or Balaji Bhavan good. It is good for Louisiana.

I enjoy Priya's in Lafayette
Same here.
I sent a Pakistani friend of mine there to give me his review, and he wasn't impressed. He asked if it was northern Indian or southern Indian style of food, and I did not know the difference. He came back and said it was southern Indian food, a style that he does not particularly like. Ok, that's his preference. He called it our equivalent of soul food.
Hey, I like soul food.
Yall need to give Priya's a try. Only has 4 tables and BYOB. Entrees only cost $13-14, and the app samosas are very good.

I guess it's a matter of perspective but like the other poster said, these don't come to the standards of traditional Indian.
The spice level is just not there, even the ones that advertise Indian spicy is just adding a lot of red chili powder, it doesn't enhance the flavor at all, just burns your stomach.
Also they use the same base masala for all the dishes and most menus are just copy paste the same old 20-30 items. Indian food is a lot more than that. I go to Saravana Bhavan in Houston for example and the menu is all vegetarian and they still have twice the number of dishes than any here.

Dafuq???
Some of the best Indian I've ever had is in Louisiana.
Mantra in Metairie
Punjabi in Hammond
These two are VERY GOOD. As good as anything in Chicago, New York, London, etc...
The yuppified place under the bridge in Gretna ain't bad either.
And Turmeric off 90 is decent too.

There is an in Indian restaurant in Monroe LA that has a legit lunch buffet and an amazing dinner menu.
Mrs KTG like to eat there when we go into town.

like what I have gotten at the one in Alexandria, but I cannot say I know what good is when it comes to Indian.
The Royal Indian bistro in Alex is top tier. Their paneer tikka masala and their chicken dum briyani are my two favorites. That being said, their plain ole butter chicken is fire too, as is their naan.

And the Himalayan café in Monroe is fantastic food, also.

Swagat and Punjabi Dhaba are both great. If you’re struggling to find decent Indian food, that’s on you.

Pretty much what I get at the restaurants here.
I don't care if they are just "staples"....they are good.

My first Indian food in the early 90's was at India's on Essen. It was love at first bite. Having a buffet to try everything was awesome!
Same here. Couldn't tell you what it was at the time but loved it.
In the MSGC area we like Orchid Indian Cuisine in Gulfport. Used to be located basically in a house/home
