Didn't they quit in the middle? I quit watching long ago but loved the first season. I guess the question is who is going to start watching a new series knowing it just ends abruptly w/ no conclusion? Not many so it has very little value to HBO. Subtract the royalty payments each year and it's a no brainer.

don’t understand it either.

Why does it cost them more to stream their own product. Did they not have this in the original contract?

They don't want to continue to pay residues on programming that isn't doing well from a viewership standpoint.

This is why I'm a firm believer in getting hard copies of things even in the time of streaming.
I'm guessing the value of DVD sets of The Sopranos and The Wire just went up on eBay.

its crap like this that has driven me to stop watching TV pretty much.

with all the different services, all the different original programming, shite getting ripped and pulled constantly, series being canceled seemingly in their prime at super high rates. ive suck F it all.

my TV consumption has gone from probably 8-10 hour a week to maybe 2.

Physical media is the goat. They can’t come in your house and take away a copy of something on a disc, but if it’s streaming it can disappear in a whiff.

Also 4K discs > 4K streaming (no compression or reliance on Wi-Fi on discs)

Yeah so I guess I should just spend $100,000 on 4K discs for everything on netflix

I've had HBO pretty much since I can remember. My parents had it when I was young and it's always been part of cable package I've since subscribed to.

THe wife and I were already talking about canceling our movie channel package but HBO had been the one keeping us from going through with it. This Zaslav prick is making it a hell of a lot more likely we dump HBO w/Starz and Showtime.

I can't imagine The Sopranos or The Wire becoming nonprofitable. Now if they had made Janice the Don and ended at season 4 with no payoff, then i could see it.

The problem is WB is broke. They are cutting programs/shows from streaming so they don’t have to pay the residuals to the creators/actors.

Streaming in general is suffocating under its own weight. Between Bidenflation causing less disposable income and over saturation of streaming services, expect a lot of contraction of programming off these services, even Disney. They are reaching levels of loss that even the parks can no longer float Disney +.

Disney+ is also hemorrhaging money,

How? Spending lots of money on low quality productions? Residuals?

Penny wise and pound foolish.

They are dumping stuff off streaming to stop from paying royalties but they are killing their fan base on HBO Max and their relationship with various content producers by doing this.

Just rewatched it and the first season is so damn good. Made it halfway through episode 2 in the next season before losing interest. They should just pay to have the first season and forget all the others.

WB has already burned the Chris Nolan bridge. Might as well burn his brother’s too.
