Westworld is being completely pulled off of HBO Max...doesn't this defeat the purpose?

Westworld is the latest series to depart HBO Max amid a slew of cuts as Warner Bros. Discovery undergoes its "end-of-year financial review." The Emmy award-winning series joins numerous other titles that have been removed from HBO Max in recent months as Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly been looking to cut costs and save on residual payouts.

"As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+," a statement from HBO Max read in August when a significant number of titles were shelved. "That will include the removal of some content from both platforms."

I thought the whole point of a streaming service was to have access to the historical library.

I bet we'll have access to every season of Alaskan Zombie Ghost Gold Hunters though.

Man they are really working to destroy possibly the best streaming library.

Disney+ is also hemorrhaging money, too, allegedly.

Maybe we will get a return to more of a 2011 Netlfix era, aka the GOAT (and I'm sorry if you missed it)

It was only westworld for the first season, then it changed to sjwworld

Who would’ve thought your show would get canceled if you changed it to only being about the ugly chick

I guess they're thinking about an extra monetization level because of all their partnerships. I mean, lots of people get HBO Max via AT&T broadband or through some other co-op deal. If they pull what they deem to be the high value stuff into a premium tier, that might make sense to the bean counters.

It will just drive more people to alternative sources. Who wants 10 or 15 or 20 separate subscriptions?

Bro 2011 Netflix was like 1997 basic cable like all they had on there was my cousin Vinny and the cable guy

Agreed - the only thing close to current HBO Max is the glory days of Netflix.

This is why I'm a firm believer in getting hard copies of things even in the time of streaming. I know it's a little different with series because unless they put them all in one big like 10 disc set in a single box it takes up a lot of space, but definitely with movies. With the way the streaming world seems to change on a whim between mergers, rights, making room for OC, and society's attitude of certain shows and movies what's readily available today could gone forever tomorrow or at least awhile.

I've watched more classic films on HBO Max than probably in my entire lifetime before HBO Max came out, I'm talking obscure shite that I wouldn't have even known existed. The TCM hub is what makes that app for me.

They should just bundle all of those together in one place. They could call it “cable.”

I don’t understand it either.

Why does it cost them more to stream their own product. Did they not have this in the original contract?

Sorry. But you gotta get up pretty early in the morning to fool Zap Rosdower.

Cable.

Yep. I ALWAYS buy the physical copy of any series that I enjoy (if it's available).

That's so weird. One thing i wish was on HBO is all those America Undercover documentaries HBO used to make in the 90's.

They're too cheap to pay residuals is my understanding.

Right there with you. If you enjoy the TCM Hub that much, then I highly recommend this service as well. Criterion has a lot of classics that are worth checking out and they shuffle their streaming library every month.

Hopefully this means that another service is picking up the final season. But one article I read said they are just trying to keep from paying residuals. Did the same thing with The Nevers. So it's probably them just being cheap.

There's another one called Kanopy that has several classic movies and obscure ones from years past too. They're somehow tied in with the library system.

Im hoping and praying that the removal from streaming means that some other studio bought the rights to it so they can finish the 5th and final season.

Physical media is the goat. They can’t come in your house and take away a copy of something on a disc, but if it’s streaming it can disappear in a whiff.

Also 4K discs > 4K streaming (no compression or reliance on Wi-Fi on discs)

It's SO frustrating that the incredible season one was followed up by such shite.

I just pretend there's only one season.
