30a is a great place to vacation no matter what the OT thinks

Lots of LSU peeps out here too. Gotta say being right across from red bar the amount of tipsy women pouring out the back all night is something to behold. . Why are drunk women so loud?
It's like what Target would be like if they sold alcohol.
Bonus is getting to watch people with 2WD vehicles getting stuck in the sand. Even the sheriff and the tow truck got stuck tonight trying to get a 2WD Silverado free.

Went to the farmers market there this weekend. The pretentious douche bag level was off the charts.
Went to Pier Park same weekend. Talk about the other end of the spectrum.
I’d love to find a middle class place at the beach.

What a spot. I haven't been since they rebuilt after the fire

The whole Florida panhandle is just played out to me. There’s so much more world out there for comparable $

I agree. I just got back from that area tonight.
Had dinner last night at Louis Louis. Cool place.

I hate saying this and sounding like an ahole, but 100% agree. Costs more to spend a week in the fricking FL panhandle with the same people you see at the local grocery store every day than it does to spend a week in say Costa Rica for example.
Nothing wrong with the area by any means though, it's beautiful for sure.

I'm pretty big on "there is more out there than Disney/US beaches/etc."
But 30A is objectively great for families IMO. Now, the folks coming from Houston and Dallas to 30A is different, but it's hard to beat if you're in Atlanta.
All that said, I think it's miserable in Summer, when it practically turns into Destin.

What’s the best time to go?

Where would they go instead?

Never been so not sure if OP is meant to be funny with his post. But are those the highlights of 30A?
LSU fans
Drunk women leaving bar
Watching cars get stuck in sand
Is OP make a joke and saying 30A sucks bc those are the highlights? I’m confused.

Agreed, we typically go on one beach trip per year, and it's to 30A. But we are also aware that it's not the end all be all, and if I could only have one vacation a year, I wouldn't choose to go to 30A. But, we're fortunate enough to be able to travel more often than that, so 1 beach trip per year can be nice and relaxing.

We also don't typically go during peak season.

Love 30A.... its big enough to spread out and not feel "overwelmed"....also not many places where you can feel safe letting your kid ride a bike or golf cart these days without thinking about if something will happen to them

put me in the 'you're scared to get out of your backyard' camp but i have no interest in traveling abroad right now. i did that as a young man and had quite a bit of fun but since covid and cartels, pretty much every story from friends turns out the same way...miserable.
haven't had a single friend say 'wow that trip to mexico last month was flawless.'

30A priced me out a couple years ago. When I can do a week on almost any island in the Caribbean for cheaper than the panhandle, I’m getting on that plane every time.

30A itself is great. It’s the people that flock there in the summer that drove me away, along with the soaring prices.
I’m pretty much over the entire Gulf Coast beach scene though, especially in the summer. I can still enjoy a fall or winter weekend down there.

While I can agree with that I think there are better, more appropriately priced options for a "relaxing" beach vacation than 30A.
The beach is where we go to relax. We don't go out to bars and we don't go out to eat. A couple of rounds of golf for me one day of shopping for the wife and daughter and we pick one day to spend out and about. This year, we rented a 18' Bayliner for the day.
Our beach trips need to have easy beach access for everyone in our group. Want to sleep in? Fine with us...walk on down to the beach when you're ready. If our daughter wants to go to the beach at night with your friends, go ahead. Mornings and afternoons on the beach, late afternoons and evenings in the pools, movies or board/card games at night. Sleep, wake, wash rinse, repeat.
Every time we've been invited to go to 30A with other people it's definitely more of a hassle for the way we like to do our beach trips.

Guess that depends on how much your spending while on vacation. We don't go out to eat a lot on our beach trips, so for us a week in the panhandle is relatively inexpensive (less than $3k for 4-5 days for 4 people). For the most part, we treat a beach trip similar to being home, just a different location. Still cook most meals in the condo, eat out 1-2 times, a quick excursion depending on weather...
Also can't beat the 3-4 hour drive to get to the location. As my kids get older, I am sure it'll cost more, and we will also start weighing more options to expand to other areas.
