We has a bad storm last night, pushed a bunch of seaweed up close to shore and a shite ton of jellyfish. Bunch of people got stung. Other than that it's been fantastic

I love 30a and I do agree that is one of the best beaches in the country (aside from Hawaii of course). I also like to cook on these vacations and we usually bring a cooler from home with chopped up veggies, spices etc. Very relaxing and a good time.

All of that being said, I agree with other posters that it is beginning to price us out. We went to Greece last week and paid 4.5k total for an incredible 5 bedroom house, with a pool, hottub, cabana, outdoor bed, outdoor kitchen, on our own beach, with bright blue water, for a week. The host stocked the house with water, wine and breakfast food.
We used points for flights, and most meals (with tax and tip) were under 9 Euros. On days we rented a car to explore the island, it was 35euros a day. All in all, it was less than a June week on 30a. Which sucks, because I do enjoy 30A - just hard to justify paying that price.

i did that as a young man and had quite a bit of fun but since covid and cartels, pretty much every story from friends turns out the same way...miserable.

haven't had a single friend say 'wow that trip to mexico last month was flawless.'

I like how you based on just Mexico.

I love 30A, but its near impossible to get restaurant reservations during the summer. Even pizza shops either take their phones off the hook or quote 2 hours for pickup orders. To pay that much money for a spot in Rosemary, which I believe is usually worth the money given the walkability and community feel, is a tough pill to swallow when you its so packed. We cook a lot of meals ourselves but its nice to be able to walk and eat at a restaurant or order pizza for the kids and relax.

Second, Seaside in the evenings turns into the spot where every parent decides to drop off their middle school/high school kids and so the place is overrun by them. Of course, when I was that age it was the best thing ever, but now that I'm not, I'm realizing how much of a pain I was.

I’m pretty much over the entire Gulf Coast beach scene though, especially in the summer. I can still enjoy a fall or winter weekend down there

Agree and just don't get heading down to Florida beeches in the heat of Summer.

Memorial Day is my cut off and head back in October and sometimes Thanksgiving but the whole scene was so much better 20+ years ago

This is my main problem with the area. I went for first time last summer in June just wife and I - amazed at wait times for restaurants and masses of humanity there.

Then imagine going to these places with groups of 4-8+ waiting for tables outside in heat. Sounds like hell on earth. I really enjoyed Citizen at Alys but cooking at the house is worth it.

We don't bring food with us or cook in Mexico

I'm talking about the difference between 30A and other gulf coast destinations. Bringing prepared meals with us and eating in the room is a much better option for us going out to dinner in Gulf Shores, Destin, Seaside, Navarre, etc.

I know. I'm saying a Mexico resort vacation with someone doing the cooking for me and bringing me a drink is a whole lot more relaxing than having to do all that preparation for a very expensive beach trip to 30A. I don't see anything relaxing about fixing all that food you're bringing with you. Did you do all that cooking and cleaning up? It's the same reason I don't like camping. A vacation shouldn't be work.

CAD, looks delicious. But I would still think it was work. We would be having hot dogs and ordering pizza. But I am not a fan of cooking. I do what I have to and only really enjoy doing big events, like a pot of gumbo for a big get together or all the holiday stuff. I'm a no for vacation cooking.

I agree with this.

That said, we are taking the 6 month old down to perdido for 5 nights next month. Been told its less crowded than either direction east or west. We need a break, dont want to leave him with the grandparents just yet, and its somewhat close.

I couldn't believe how high a simple 2 br condo was on the beach these days. We are going to mexico late summer as well and that will actually cost less WITH airfare, all inclusive than what we are paying for 5 nights on the ole Redneck Riviera. I am assuming VRBO/AirBnB has caused this?

This might sound dumb, but I’m not sure why you’d go to the beach during the summer with a 6 month old. The shoulder seasons are much less crowded, and your kid isn’t in school yet, so that shouldn’t be a conflict (I understand if you or your SO work in education).

We typically take 1 beach trip per year, but never in the summer.

Why would those cause higher prices?
Supply and demand. Tons of people still not cruising or going out of the country. Beach trip is close and easy.

hot?

Its when our nanny could go. We have a 7 year old as well so can't go during late summer.

Honestly, i booked it to to let the wife get some sun/relax time. Hell she may stay by the pool. Newborn has been 90% her the past few months, so figured we could get down there for a little bit for her sake. Baby already loves the pool and being outside. Get a few nice dinners out and let her get loose. Shes very excited that we have child care going with us. This will be my first ever beach trip with kids.

I can afford it dude Was just shocked how much its gone up. I haven't booked anything down there since my single days, probably 8 years ago. Its just crazy your nightly price would also get you a decent all inclusive resort in MX.

Because it has everywhere else that involves lakehouses, weekend retreats, etc.

Banks have been lending money for lakehouses with the expectation you're going to have an income producing asset quickly. I am one of my only friends that didnt take advantage of this.

It drove prices up for vacation type areas, IMO. Obviously there are others factors, but I do not have this opinion alone

Okay? So why not go up northeast (Cape Cod, Hamptons) where it's much more comfortable this time of the year?

That's a LONG drive from Arkansas. Wife not wanting to fly with baby yet - she hates flying without one, couldn't convince her flying with one. We will do this 5 hours at night/3ish hours early morning both ways.
Also we live in Arkansas, where its been 95-101 for 2 weeks straight at 75% humidity. 90 on any beach with a pool will feel like fall weather

Why dont you just leave the kids at home with nanny? You have 2 kids and are bringing a nanny to the beach to watch your kids while you and your wife are there?

Lil man is 6 months old. He has not been away from us yet more than 12 hours. Wife still gets some R/R on the beach, at pool, etc and baby nearby. Do yall not have kids? This thread is odd. I throw in my 2c on prices and end up defending choices.

Why does this trigger yall so much?
