Wife said the condo was $700/night. Spent $200 round trip in gas to get there.

Quick Orbitz search says I can't get to Costa Rica from NOLA or ATL for under $800/person.

We are down in Navarre right now staying on the pier for the week. We already have been recommended the slippery mermaid for sushi. What are the other places we need to check out?

I've never been on that side, but it's definitely good on the Pacific. Roosters inshore and plenty billfish in easy reach offshore.

Good Lord, flight prices are high right now. Definitely haven't spent that much in the past. That said, still some really nice AirBnBs for <$200/nt. Definitely depends on # of people when flying.

Alphys, SharkBites food truck for breakfast

Rib Shack for some bbq

Donuts in Paradise food truck

Dewey Destin's for seafood (tho a lil pricey).

Beachhouse for a lil more nice atmosphere; view of the lazy river.

Where Ya At seafood up on FL-87 for cajun.

Stripes for casual american dining and sports bar.

Those are places we have had consistent good food. Others may disagree.

YMMV

I guess different people have different definitions of relaxing Hanging out in a beach community while walking or riding bikes to bars and restaurants is relaxing to me. I can't go somewhere and literally just sit on the beach for a week straight, I need some sort of entertainment.

Agreed. My thing is the water color. You can not beat Destin to Panama City. I don’t understand the coastal hydrology why CSB doesn’t have pretty water.

I also prefer to be around the bars and restaurants. I would get bored just sitting on the beach all day every day for a week.

I’ll be there Thursday. How’s the water and seaweed?

I don't know who your friends are and where they are going, but I haven't had even one that said that about Mexico, even since Covid. Maybe your friends are going to the wrong places. Pretty much it's been great post Covid...less people.

The beach is where we go to relax. We don't go out to bars and we don't go out to eat.

Sounds like a lot of work to me. Somebody is cooking if you don't go out to eat. The way you describe it, it's something I'd want to do for 3 days, not a whole week.

We used to do a week at the beach with my wife’s family every summer. We had dinners down to a science. Enough families for each to cover dinner 4 of the nights, then there’s always that night everyone is tired and we just do frozen pizza or sandwiches, then a shrimp boil one night. Then the last night is just eat whatever food is left. With a little planning, it’s not that hard.

Almost all of us hate going out to eat dinner at the beach. Late afternoon is the best time on the beach, getting everyone showered and dressed is a pain, and every place is packed. No thanks.

Every time we've been invited to go to 30A with other people it's definitely more of a hassle for the way we like to do our beach trips.
i have yet to move my car. we can walk to grayton beach (3 houses away) or walk over to red bar or one of the other bars to grab a 'to go' drink.

very relaxing. the coffee shop around the corner opens at 5am so i can grab a cup of coffee and walk out on the beach to catch the sunrise while everyone else is still sleeping.

beach is not crowded at all. its not cape san blas but then again i'm not a big fisherman so i enjoy having a few other people around especially for the kids to play with other kids.

we have cooked almost all our meals here. how can anyone think its more relaxing to eat out the whole time? we're not making a 7 course meal; just simple beach food that is way more healthy than eating out constantly.

Outside of the days we grill (usually two nights for a week trip), almost everything is cooked home, frozen and brought with us.

Chicken enchiladas
Lasagna
Tacos
Red Beans and Rice
We always order pizza at least one night

If you want to go out, 30A can work. You'll spend extra for the convenience to go spend extra at a bar/restaurant BUT if thats what you like it certainly has it.

Other places do too and many of them offer beaches just as nice at a lower price point. They don't have cool stickers for the Denali though.

I never think cooking is relaxing. You have to clean up. It's a pain. Of course, it's not a pain for those who don't have to do it! When you say we, are YOU actually cooking?

So somebody was cooking. I just don't want that somebody to be me! All those things you listed...plenty time and work went into that. Plenty time cleaning up as well. It just depends on what you think is fun and relaxing. I'll let someone bring me a pretty drink on a beach at a resort in Mexico!

We don't bring food with us or cook in Mexico

I'm talking about the difference between 30A and other gulf coast destinations. Bringing prepared meals with us and eating in the room is a much better option for us going out to dinner in Gulf Shores, Destin, Seaside, Navarre, etc.

One of the BIG draws to 30A is the proximity to restaurants and bars which is the opposite of relaxation to me on a beach vacation.

well if I'm not cooking I'm cleaning up. This isn't some crazy task. We do use aluminum pans and paper plates if that makes your feel better but after being on the beach all day in the sun it's nice to clean up and make some dinner for everyone and blend some strawberries and rum in the blender.

Right now the wife and I are making homemade spring rolls with fresh shrimp from the seafood market on 98...well i cut up the chicken for Thai curry and now I'm on my phone posting shite on TD and watching her. Smells like heaven from the mint and basil.

I did cheat and get a key lime pie from them too.
