Company just gave 30-day notice about return to office

Ugh. Two years of record growth without going into the office. I don't understand the push to force people back into the drudgery of commuting. And the sycophants that applaud the announcement. Just vomit. Anyway, looking forward to my commute again as we approach $5 gas!
I guarantee companies are going to lose quality employees who will choose the flexibility of working from home vs. being "collaborative" in the office. A previous company I worked for moved from burbs into Atlanta and thought employees would love the fancy new office, but the reality was 400% turnover during the next couple years. Turns out people don't want to live in Atlanta and they would rather quit than spend 2-3 hours in traffic every day.
Yes, yes, I'm sure many of you have been working the whole time. Me too. I don't need to be in the office, I need to be on the road and out.
Who else out there is hearing the same message?

You poor little thing. How will you ever bear the strain?

By the user name I'm assuming some sort of construction or civil engineering firm?

Made the switch for the first time to fully remote last October. Switched companies, but same work essentially.
They made the call at my company yesterday, and I felt the pain for those employees that are not remote and are going to have to reenter that whole daily routine...
Remote life is so good.

Was in building products manufacturing, I am in a different industry now, but still consumer products.

Funny because mine just made hybrid work permanent.

They let several people move away during COVID. I know at least one will be expected to FLY in almost every week, at least for a while. Yikes. My boss lives 1000 miles away. I am going to ask if there is any flexibility on this, but I've only been at this place for 2 years. I had been holding out hope they'd go full remote, and we'd sell our house and move back closer to home.

Time to get out of your jammies, you lazy millennial, and have some real contact with people like an adult.

How will we ever get any work done unless micromanaging boomers are looking over our shoulder 8-10 hours a day?

What's your office like. My company purchased a new campus right before covid... 2 large buildings.... It has 2 gyms, 1 has a pool. Another has a big area for yoga and CrossFit classes. We have a cafe in one building with a grill, the other has a cafeteria style setup. Each floor has a break room with bar style setup. I'm remote 100 percent but tempted to go back at the office. shite I could sell my house and live there right now and no one would know.

Side chats during the meeting hint that perhaps this could be the evolution.

My ideal life would be a mix between the two. During the original shut down I enjoyed working remote at first. But after 1.5 and a half or whatever it was I was actually excited to get back into the office, get back into a routine, have an office, and a desk, and have people to chat with in this office.
With that said I'd absolutely kill to be able to have a few days a week to sleep-in, be more relaxed at home, not have to commute, and have all the other benefits of remote work.

The huge majority of WFH people I know are lazy and abuse it.

Our company launched permanant hybrid as well. I joined during Covid but haven't done a single project with anyone in Dallas so I've never been into the office.

It should definitely satisfy both sides of the fence.
Luckily my Manager is the coolest SOB on the planet and doesn't really care where I am at as long as I continue to print the company money.
