Lipsey is a smart man, he needed the support of a large city like BTR until he knew that St. George would be viable. Now that is it, he's jumping ship.

I'm coming from a world where this was unheard of until the last year or two. Is this the norm in most industries?

Can you give some details without giving away anything you don't want to? I'm mostly interested in the vaguest form of industry you're willing to share, and more interested in knowing what portion of the business valuation is assets and what portion of the business is a customer index. The service the business fills, are they larger transactional values or smaller? Are the commitments from customers shorter in time or a longer term customer commitment?
Franchise (Fairly well-known brand, part of a larger group)
Brand is Territory Protected (Large Metro Area in Texas)
Home Services (HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical)
High Volume, Medium Margin
Potential for repeat customers.

I'm guessing it's not these guys.

I got a 5% raise this year only because my boss fought like hell for it. Most at my org got 0-2.5%.
No bonuses company-wide, rug-pulled at the last minute.
Morale is, not great.

Things have been crazy around here but wanted to update the folks that have been kind enough to provide wisdom/advice in this thread.
I have a call tomorrow morning with an owner who is looking to exit that was set up by a mutual friend of ours. Based on what I know about the gross revenue, this one may be pushing the top end of my budget bit I figure it can't hurt to have the conversation.

re: Nice places to stay in Baton Rouge - Not joking

The Watermark is my favorite when visiting Baton Rouge, Lod Cook is great if you need to be on campus but its a bit dated at this point.
My review of the Watermark is below if you're interested.

I used to stay at that Renaissance all the time and its a very nice hotel, especially considering its 15 years old at this point.
I also really like the Watermark downtown. Also part of Marriott and owned by the same guy.

Southwest is Adding Free Starlink Wi-Fi Onboard
Posted by H2O Tiger on 2/12/26 at 1:00 pm
I know a lot of people are pissed about the recent changes at Southwest (But let's be honest, they're just like every other airline now) but this should make some folks happy.
Southwest is joining Alaska and United in offering free Starlink internet for Rapid Rewards members onboard. The first aircraft should have the product by this summer with more than 300 airplanes outfitted by the end of 2026.
They haven't given an exact timeline but I'd expect it to be fully introduced by the end of 2027.

re: Business trip voucher dilemma
Posted by H2O Tiger on 2/10/26 at 10:54 am to LemmyLives
If he's in MSP I'm going to assume its a Delta voucher. Flights are likely more expensive due to the "nonstop premium" and OP may be fine with connecting.
I agree with you to just use it on a separate trip. Voucher should be good for up to a year from the original travel date though you will only be able to use it on yourself, with the wife having to pay full fare. Since it was issued in your name I don't believe you can split it.

TD has a great PM feature.

I've got roughly $500k that I could personally invest. Have more available, but that is the top of where I would feel comfortable.
Appreciate all of the responses, I have a good relationship with a local bank so a traditional loan is definitely in the cards, and preferred.
I guess my biggest issue is finding the proper broker, CPA, attorney, etc. After 10 years in consulting I just assume that everyone is lying to me and trying to screw me.
With some of the business owners I know now, their orgs would be too large for me to realistically purchase. Obviously these things live and die on the individual business in question.

I'm working with Hancock Whitney on my current search and they've been great.
The other company we use is Plus Relocation Mortgage but we had an existing relationship with them.

Oh no, it’s still a ton, but I think the last 2-3 days has wiped out around $50k
The slide in tech stocks has obliterated my accounts.
When I find out I’ll let you know. But I regularly take 2+ weeks without issue. I’m never really “off” though as I still answer emails and take calls on vacation.

3-4 years
I had a 4Runner from high school until after I graduated grad school and was working so that skews the numbers but everything else has been about 3 years.

The PIC wasn't legal either. Just like the crash of the Texas booster plane in Maine this week, gotta-get-there-itis got them.
