Actually, best shape in a long time. I don’t eat out for lunch, and since I make breakfast for kids, I eat breakfast.
I take the kids for a walk or to do something, and when my wife gets home, I go back to work.

We were never out of the office.

I guess. In my role(s), I directly work with retailers, product development, and manufacturing. I am not worried about India as much as economic downturn.

Now, let’s be honest. Was the growth organic or inflationary?
Organic is a relative term when people have free money to spend.
That being said, we sold more product. We shipped more product. We gained space at retail. We gained more customers. We entered new markets.

Fair points. I do think that the people in the office socializing will end up getting promoted quicker since promotions are very rarely about who does their current job best. Most are about who people in charge like the best.
But frankly, I chased promotions early in my career and have very little interest in it anymore. I’m 40 and have one more to go and that’ll happen next year. Only reason I care is the significant pay bump. After that, I’m done. I’ve discovered that I just don’t care about my employer anymore. It’s a job. There is no loyalty either way so why should I put forth 1 minute more effort than the bare minimum it takes to achieve MY goals. They’ll cut bait with anyone the second they need to to meet their goals so why shouldn’t employees do the same. Call me jaded if you want, but this is how the world works now.
Perfectly reasonable. I'm 33 and I do see where you're coming from. I've found there's a level of management I don't want to get to and would just rather open up my own business.
One thing I will say is I can't work anywhere that I don't like or appreciate my employer. It may be a suckers bet, but I've noticed my quality of work and as a byproduct life dips hard when I hit that stage.

I mean, I agree with this. I posted this in another thread, but about 5 years ago my company started cutting out COLA and steadily increased the employee cost for health insurance.
And what makes it worse is I see lots of areas where we basically waste money, large amounts of money.

Funny because mine just made hybrid work permanent.
Same here. Not COVID related either.
And we were NOT work from home or hybrid prior to this.

Not all good employees would make good managers. I'm definitely one of those people. I've turned down management jobs 3 times in my career because I think I'd hate it.

I'm in my third/fourth year of truly managing people, and I enjoy it. I'm a little too hands off of my employees, which I'm working on improving, but I see most people as puzzles and try to provide each the best balance I can so they can succeed and ultimately move up if they choose to.

I'll never be the CIO type. I don't have nearly the politician personality for that type of role. Lower level managers in my field don't make much more than SR level non-management staff but they have 10x the BS to deal with.

We’ve been back in the office since Spring ‘21 and experienced the best year we’ve had. I don’t think y’all being out of office had anything to do with record growth.
You are missing the point, we had the same success as you. Without the 200 days of commuting

I agree with an established business, but I'd have no issue doing it at my own or a business I helped start. I'm not sure why the difference, but it is what it is ha. I'm a little socially awkward, but in the accounting industry that's on the extremely positive side of the scale

Your job may be less team based than mine, so if you can do your job independently than others I agree it doesn't matter. If you're more efficient than others but bail after half the time, than I'd note that as a good/bad scenario where taking the win of helping your teammates would get you promoted faster. If you are fine at the level you're at, again I probably wouldn't be super bothered about it. Ultimately getting the job done is the most important.
Work from home more hurts people who are struggling to pick up concepts, and I'll also be honest and just admit I'm not a fan of pure work from home. It doesn't really suit my communication style, and I'm very pro-team work.
My work is project team based. For things that I need help with from others I no longer walk over to their office and ask them a question, I just reach out to them on Teams. If it's something that needs to be said rather than typed out, I ask if I can call them via Teams. For me, it's really much more efficient than the office environment, because most of the time when in person the conversation would drift from the initial point onto something else (either personal or work related). With teams, it's usually a question/answer and go about my day.
It's definitely less interpersonal, but I like it that way. I've never been one to mix work and personal life, so going out with co-workers or things like that have never really been high on my list of things that I want to do
ETA: I am very close with my direct manager though, but we've been friends for 12+ years going back to our undergrad days.

How fricking entitled are we as a society when people start bitching about actually having to leave their houses for work.

If you don’t like, go for the American dream and strike out on your own buy owning your own company. Stop complaining and do something about it.

You seem like someone that struggled to find a point to make. It is clear companies don’t all need to have people in offices to succeed. It is wasteful to force people to commute to do literally the same thing they could do anywhere else.
I get many of you can’t comprehend how other businesses work. Excel works on almost any device. It doesn’t care where you are.

Maybe. Or maybe when companies lose massive amounts of staff they will just adapt. We aren’t oyster fisherman that need to be on boats.
