Yep, I log in around 6:30 and out around 4:30. If I was going into an office it would be closer to 8 and 4.
ETA: and I would be taking a lunch break out of the office every day

Exactly. I firmly believe that to make the C Suite you have to be willing to trade your life for your job. It’s got to be something that you care about more than anything else.
Agreed, and for me the only thing that would be worth it for me to trade my life for, and for it to be all consuming- would be something that i absolutely LOVE to do.. think professional athlete, or musician, or maybe like a standup comedian or somehting.. where it’s in your blood and the payoff can be huge if you have talent and give it everything you have for years , and decades of your life.. I cant imagine many people feeling that way about business, or being some financial executive or something- though I suppose those people do exist .

Some employees do function better in an office setting due to household distractions.
You also don't realize the distractions of home when the family is around and there are things that need doing

Single or a couple with a significant other who works, that is a different story. Then just avoid the porn

I have 3 kids and 2 have after school activities. If I'm in office and have to commute I work my 8 hours, leave several things undone because I have to get kids. When I wfh I wake up at the same time. Start working an hour or more earlier and work an hour or more later. Don't take a lunch break at home.
I'm much more efficient at home than in an office setting.
Same here. If working from home logging in at 6am and logging out around 430 or 5pm. If going into work i'm getting dressed etc... driving in at 7am and leaving at 3:30 pm to beat the traffic. Once i'm home not turning computer back on. Much more efficient at home.

Your arse has been sitting at home for two fricking years and you’re just now being made to go back to work? And you’re bitching that you have to live a normal life again? I recommend you quit your job and go sit in a corner of your house waiting to eventually die. It’s obvious you’re no good to yourself or anyone else. If functioning in society as a normal adult is just too much for you.
Why so angry? This thread is about how office work has evolved. It is pointless to “force” a butts in seats culture at this point for many people. We have been “living life” since this whole thing started, your POV on this is noted, but silly and frankly…worthless.
Working from home doesn’t mean “sitting on my arse” anymore than being in an office. You do realize not everyone is out there digging ditches, right? Aren’t people in offices mostly sitting on their arse? Have you ever worked in a office? 99% of people have headphones on and barely interact.
I went back to the office May 2020. Resumed travel within driving distance, which was essentially VA to FL. We had 6 plants in the region and our R&D that I visited. I sat on my arse a lot while driving, I guess?
I changed jobs to a company that was already remote. I have NEVER had to go into the office, as about 50% of our staff.
I am in consumer products. I visited over 200 retail locations this holiday season alone. I visited vendor offices. I can take calls with customers and vendors ANYWHERE. I have very little need to be in the office, at all. None. If anything, being in the office disconnects me from being able to be where I need to be.
I can ring my entire team with the click of a button. I can message them. We can work in the same document. We can write on a whiteboard. We can see each other. We can interact. It’s more efficient than being in an office.
It is worth noting that some roles are simply more productive working remotely. Some aren’t. It’s hard for some people to accept, because they are in roles that require you to physically be somewhere to push a button or scrub a toilet. That’s not what I do.
And the bonus? I actually get to interact with my kids. I see them off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. It’s awesome. And then I get back to sitting my arse at the desk and talk to folks from the west coast or FE.
It’s amazing…shockingly my phone works at home, I don’t require tech at the office.

I have found it interesting the different ways people reacted to WFH.
My wife was WFH since.....2019ish. So before the pandemic. She does fine, but she misses going in 1-2 days a week. They have abolished their local office after getting bought out by a very large well known company.
My mom has been working for a company for 35 years and they had to WFH when COVID happened and I had never seen her so upset. She absolutely hated it. To her, work was where you worked, and home was for home. She was very upset.
I had worked manual labor jobs for most of my working life, and I got my job as an accountant working from home and I like it. Even if I'm not feeling too hot, I rest easy knowing I just need to walk a few feet and I'm logged on. All I have to do is meet deadlines, so when it's a slow day I can do other stuff around the house. Also I'm with my wife all day which is fricking amazing.
The one thing I've learned is that normal is different for everyone. There are some that thrive by themselves, there are some that need to be in office all day, and then there are most of us who could maybe benefit from 1-2 days in office.

Yeah, frick going up the office. I got asked to come back and said I would put in my notice my 1st day back if that was what they wanted me to do. Funny enough I haven’t heard that request again.

I guess I can imagine the appeal of being stuck at home for the rest of my life, but I don’t want to.
Enjoy your zoom meetings and emails I guess

its this more than anything
Forcing previously COVID WFH/hybrid situations to come back into the office is step 1 to reducing labor costs.
Either we pay for all this office space and you have to come into work every day, or you can work from home at a reduced salary. Now, not only am I paying you less, I can try and renegotiate out from under this lease where I'm paying for AAA Class commercial realestate where my NNN is bleeding my cash
