We've been back to the office full time since September 2021 and our company just announced moving to a hybrid schedule 2 WFH/ 3 office, because so many people left for other companies.

Find another job that will allow you to work remotely. Might get paid a little less but think of it as vacation expenses since it will increase your happiness. Might mess around and find one that pays more.

I completely switched jobs this year because of the availability to work remote. My previous boss basically said frick working remote and made everyone come into the office during the pandemic. Everyone got covid at some point including an office outbreak and she never once made any commitment to remote work. I have been working remote at my new job since October and the ability to do it everyday and not do a useless commute and being a to get more sleep every morning has been a godsend for me. I have an office I can go into to print anything I need or other office related business but I only go in when I need to. I can’t see myself ever going back into an office full time after finally having flexibility for the first time in my life.

I personally like hybrid work (3 in / 2 out) but people threatening to quit has kind of ruined that at my office, so like 15 percent of the people actually show up. It's super frustrating, and not something I enjoy.

AK-SHUALLYY.
Yeah, I can. If the lake has a picnic table I 100% can do my job just as well as I do when I'm mobile every other week. Just because someone's work is mostly on a computer doesn't mean they're slamming away at a keyboard all day. Phone calls and problem solving is still working and can still happen while I take a quick walk around the block.
But just to return the ball: chatting in the break room over the coffee machine isn't very productive either and your age group is the absolute worst for it.

Yeah I went from a fully remote job to an office job. If you can do your job fully remote then you will quit lol.

A). The commute got olddd especially with Biden’s gas prices!

B). I didn’t want to live near my work because I didn’t like the area, but I also hated the commute!

C). You will encounter more fricking distractions in an open office environment then at home. They will lie to your face and tell you the only reason you are back is for collaboration and productivity….bullshvt

D). You will have to deal with frequent Covid outbreaks while management is working from home or on a hybrid schedule conveniently!

I didn’t last 4 months lol

Yep. There are days when there isn't much to do, why the frick should a person be forced to just hang around? There are more than enough days where you will give 12-16-18-or even 24 hours. Sometimes that person that looks unproductive might just be... done.

Today was "employee appreciation day," so we had an awards ceremony and all that jazz. No meetings allowed today. I cleaned my inbox and I'm caught up for the week. I'm going to go buy some bait.

Some people like the office, so I can understand it. I fricking hate it, and always have. Have been blessed to have a job that has historically been a mix. Lots of time in the field helps to relieve time at a desk. If I'm sitting at my desk just working on excel and powerpoint all day, why the frick does it matter where I am sitting to do it? In fact, you likely will get a minimum of 2 extra hours. I actually don't mind working at all at any hour of the day or night at home, I can just turn on Seinfeld on one screen and plug away.

I find it hilarious that so many posters are pro-Remote work now.. i only signed up here a few months ago, but ive been lurking for a long time, and i remember seeing threads a couple yrs ago, pre-Great Pandemic- where anyone who extolled the virtues of working from home were called lazy, or anti-social weirdos.. ive been working remotely for 15 yrs, so i always wondered why so many people were anti-WFH.. fast forward to now, and it actually kinda pisses me off that so many have had their eyes opened to the awesomeness of remote work, b/c it used to be that id have gyms and stores and everything else wide open for me from around 9:30am - 3pm on weekdays.. those days are gone, and never coming back .

I went back to the office for 1 day in January because I hadn’t been for 2 years. Was kind of cool for the first 2 hours. Then I left so I could actually get some work done.

When did being at the lake enter the picture? lol.
But to be honest, I have Teams meetings from my phone, ipad, laptop... I can even reply to messages from my watch. I met with a giant customer last night from my phone on Zoom. One of the people from giant blue retailer was also on their phone.

The 9-5 notion of work is also evolving. If you ask me to run an analysis on sales from the previous year and report back on my findings... why do you care where I am, what hours I worked... if I delivered the goods on time and you were satisfied with the results? How does me being in the office so I can wave at the receptionist before ducking into my office improve anything?

I'm farting around today on "employee appreciation day," where we have no meetings. Probably headed to the lake.

Remote work has been the best thing to come out of Covid specifically because the EMPLOYEE now reaps the benefit of being more productive in terms of extra time to spend on themselves. Work real hard and/or smart and you get done in a few hours and can spend the rest of the day doing whatever. Used to be that the reward for busting arse was additional work - the company absorbed 100% of your productivity gains.

On the training side, it's been brutal getting new employees up and running, and we've noticed employees have even less want to stay and will leave at a moments notice. Personally I like the office, and enjoy being face to face with my team.

I'm sure that is a challenge. It isn't a one size fits all thing. Remote works for us, and I suspect there would be high turnover if they were to cut it out.

This mindset hurts WFH for a lot of industries. I personally don't care what hours people work, but if I see someone not logged in for multiple hours at a time and know some of my other employees are swamped, I'd probably check to see how many hours you're actually clocking.

The "I want to look over your shoulder" guard. It's also not exclusively a boomer thing either.

You'd think being able to save tens of thousands of dollars in monthly building and maintenance costs would be of more value.

It's not the 90s anymore. We have the technology. It's better for the environment, home life and saves money on overhead. But, by god, you better be in your office.
