You'd think being able to save tens of thousands of dollars in monthly building and maintenance costs would be of more value.

One thing that immediately was realized when we tried to return to office before... there aren't enough meeting rooms to conduct all the meetings that we have scheduled. People were asked to start reserving rooms, and it was impossible. They actually said some meetings would have to be via teams. Yes. In my office. On teams. With other people in the office.

That was how it was at my last company that "boldly" went back to the office in May 2020. We had to space out in our cubes and meetings were on teams. Lol. It was stupid.

This mindset hurts WFH for a lot of industries. I personally don't care what hours people work, but if I see someone not logged in for multiple hours at a time and know some of my other employees are swamped, I'd probably check to see how many hours you're actually clocking

I have no problem being assigned more tasks but if as you said “you don’t care what hours people work” why do you care if it takes 4 or 8 hours to complete those tasks? Most people in the office are experts at looking busy while doing little. Random useless meetings are huge time sucks. I want to get done with what needs to get done as quickly as possible and then enjoy life. But if I’m forced back into an office, all of a sudden my 4 hour workload will take 8 once again.

It's not the 90s anymore. We have the technology. It's better for the environment, home life and saves money on overhead. But, by god, you better be in your office.

I'll be making rounds at 5pm to see which employees are really valuable. frick the ones here at 6am, though.

If your job can be done 100% remote, it can likely be done from India.

This is why I feel hybrid is the best play. Just like people have preferences in anything, some people just work better remotely. Why try to fix something that’s not broken just to tinker for the sake of it. With hybrid, those who wanna be in the office can and those who rather WFH can do that too. As long as communication lines are open and people are responsible, it’s a non-issue.

I personally haven’t had to worry about the commute, am much more relaxed, less time wasted, and get more done both professionally and personally. There’s no incentive to go back to office full time, so I wouldn’t even entertain a position that required it. I’m significantly more productive at home, as is most of my team. Anyone who wasn’t is gone now. There is zero reason this cannot be true for literally millions of businesses.

I enjoy all you mid level managers and below speaking as if you are more savvy than actual decision makers in your company/industry

Your job may be less team based than mine, so if you can do your job independently than others I agree it doesn't matter. If you're more efficient than others but bail after half the time, than I'd note that as a good/bad scenario where taking the win of helping your teammates would get you promoted faster. If you are fine at the level you're at, again I probably wouldn't be super bothered about it. Ultimately getting the job done is the most important.

Work from home more hurts people who are struggling to pick up concepts, and I'll also be honest and just admit I'm not a fan of pure work from home. It doesn't really suit my communication style, and I'm very pro-team work.

I have worked from home for 7 years now, but when the pandemic started my company had most everyone who could work from home, and now they are renting out our office space.

I actually hated remote work. Granted some of this is that I'm in behavioral health and telehealth just isn't as effective, but in general I like having my office. I also developed a lot of unhealthy habits and gained a good bit of weight when my office was located in my home bar and a few feet away from the kitchen.

I work from home but my company also rents me my own office space. So I enjoy both of it.

I think a hybrid approach is best in many environments - perhaps 2 days per week in the office for everyone, with occasional all-hands get-togethers. Most folks I know have been very productive telecommuting, which employers can certainly measure.

Fair points. I do think that the people in the office socializing will end up getting promoted quicker since promotions are very rarely about who does their current job best. Most are about who people in charge like the best.

But frankly, I chased promotions early in my career and have very little interest in it anymore. I’m 40 and have one more to go and that’ll happen next year. Only reason I care is the significant pay bump. After that, I’m done. I’ve discovered that I just don’t care about my employer anymore. It’s a job. There is no loyalty either way so why should I put forth 1 minute more effort than the bare minimum it takes to achieve MY goals. They’ll cut bait with anyone the second they need to to meet their goals so why shouldn’t employees do the same. Call me jaded if you want, but this is how the world works now.

Now, let’s be honest. Was the growth organic or inflationary?

My company is making it 2-3 days a week in the office. They are letting individual managers decide their work schedule. I’m cool bookending my weeks working at home because in my line of work being in the office does help generate business.

I wouldn’t be upset if they said we didn’t ever have to go back in though. WFH is amazing. The reason they’re going back is because I’m sure they are getting some kickbacks having occupied commercial real estate. The government doesn’t want that to collapse

Actually, best shape in a long time. I don’t eat out for lunch, and since I make breakfast for kids, I eat breakfast.

I take the kids for a walk or to do something, and when my wife gets home, I go back to work.

We’ve been back in the office since Spring ‘21 and experienced the best year we’ve had.
I don’t think y’all being out of office had anything to do with record growth.
