Etling actually had a pretty good year.

2400 yards?

16 TDs?

60.0%? completion rate?

he had low INTs and a high ypa b/c we were completely reliant on the big passing play (like LSU circa 2009-2010)

he took a metric frick ton of negative plays b/c he had to be safe, because his physical limitations denied him the opportunity to take any reasonable risks. he was way too safe because he had to be, which really hurt any sort of momentum/progress on offense. we were big play or nothing, which sucks

Etling’s final product looks semi decent on paper but you cannot watch the guy play and tell me he’s an SEC QB for a good team.

I would say that Etling should be the gold standard for LSU fans going forward in any argument that stats can be deceiving

If Miles leaves, then so does Frank Wilson and Billy Gonzales. If that happens, this class goes to complete crap, regardless of who we hire.

Jake neither of those threads say we can’t fire Miles because it would ruin the recruiting class.

Focus on what you said originally. This isn’t the same. Both threads are inquiring how we could keep the class together, and who We could hire to do that. Implying that they are ok with Miles leaving

Etling has a decent (not great by any means) year. He has limitations but those were exaggerated. He did not perform poorly enough that we should have shut down the season entirely.

I’m growing a little tired of this narrative. Miles last 4 classes we signed 18 OL, I’d prefer over 20, but ok. This class we have 4 signed and signed 4 last year including the WV kid that’s already left the program. And we have no QB

at least once we lost to Troy. there is literally no excuse after that b/c our season was over

Also the notion that he would have automatically lost more with Brennan is stupid. I mean honestly what game that we didn’t lose anyway do you figure we lose with Brennan? I can’t think of one.

I heard that Brennan went to the staff and Acknowledged that he wasn’t ready to play and that Danny should start all year. This was before the Florida game.

I don’t know if this number is accurate or not, but off the top of my head — Willie Allen, Dodd, Chidi, Teuhema, George Brown all left school.

LSU once played 4 freshmen offensive linemen at the same time during an SEC road game. I’d say that’s pretty significant.

We were left in a bad spot after the coaching change. Esp after Teuhuma was removed. No depth & lacked talent. I didn’t blame it on Miles cause it’s hard to pin point the fault on anyone. Attrition isn’t uncommon after a coaching change

That being said there was some faults with the way Miles evaluated OL. The lack of OT’s in the nfl says enough. He liked smaller guys on the outside and this was exposed against teams like bama.i think the longrst standing OL in the league from a Miles class was a converted DL

Hell I thought Etling was better last year. Dude missed umpteen checkdowns and bypassed so many easy throws. He looked more like 2015 Harris this season.

A lot of people bought the line of excuses and have ignored facts.

Maybe but what makes you so sure? Other than it’s unknown and he’s a freshman. Freshman QBs have won plenty of games, even at LSU and they don’t have to be elite superstars or ungodly loaded teams like Bama either. But at the end of the day is 8-5 THAT much worse than 9-4? It’s not like O gets fired if we went 8-5

Freshman QB’s aren’t given a long enough leash to make plays at LSU...ever since Jarrett Lee’s pick 6 fest in 2008, it has been very vanilla for all of the LSU qb’s

We were 6-2 in the West and still very much in the divisional race. I see no reason to shut down the season at that point in time and label it a rebuilding year.
