So… if you’re Mississippi State who you hire?

Mike Leach was one of a kind and an icon in college football. He was one of the few SEC coaches I liked. His untimely passing obviously puts State in a pickle, as State doesn’t want to look too insensitive toward Mr Leach’s family, I assume.
But realistically it is recruiting period / transfer portal / bowl season.
Who do you think Mississippi State should pursue?
Dykes?
Klingsberry?
Someone else?
Who? I’m curious.
If it was me, I’d spend the bucks and get Sonny Dykes.

Why did LSU fire him? Why isn't he still at LSU? He isn't going to get players the way Deion Sanders can get to go to his team.

Mullen is available

Sonny Dykes wouldn’t sniff the playoffs at Moo U.

TCU is a better program in an infinitely better city. 0% chance MSU could convince him to go there

I am a State alum. I wouldn’t mind Mullen. He probably never should have left, but I do not blame him for pursuing what was probably his dream job at Florida.
I think State is a perfect match for him though. Similar to how it was for Leach. Find a way to win 7-9 games most years, pop a random 10-11 win season every 7-8 years or so and you are golden at State.
A lot less pressure there, vs other SEC jobs. And the talent pool really isn’t all that bad either. And it’s still a place that if you can capture some magic, you have the schedule strength to put you in the College Football Playoff.
Sincerely Gutted about Leach though. It’s Truly difficult to think about the entire pool of coaching candidates in a time like this.

Mike Elko
Good first year at Duke. Has had very good defenses and going bowling at Duke in his first year.

Why do people always say this like someone is taking a vacation there? It’s completely irrelevant when talking about coaching/ what job somebody might take.
Dykes has TCU in the playoffs and Miss St is a bottom level SEC team, there’s no reason for him to leave

Who are those saying this? I thought they are smarter than posting some idiotic posts that doesn't make much sense. Ed Orgeron did warn Kiffin not to take the Ole Miss job. Why would he say that? He is 100 percent correct but Ed Orgeron isn't Kiffin. Kiffin is a lot better HC that is at Ole Miss and got them to win 10 games. The situation is Kiffin is more likely to jump ship for a better gig when the time is right. It is going to be hard to replace Kiffin at Ole Miss and Mike Leach at MSU. Those two seems to thrive there due to being the right fit but wouldn't win championship there. Good enough like Mullen did at MSU. Who is that HC with that right fit to stay there long enough like Mullen did at MSU. Currently Kiffin at Ole Miss.

I was responding to someone saying Dykes shouldn’t go to MSU in part because Ft Worth is a better city. That part is irrelevant. There were tards in here a year ago saying assistants would come to LSU because Baton Rouge is a “ shithole” there’s some that say it about the Saints job, it’s stupid.
As for Kiffin he was at FAU, OM is definitely a step up, State is not a step up from TCU. O and Matt Luke who was hired after Freeze scandal are the only coaches at OM in a long time that didn’t have a 9-10 win season

Should go after Holgorsen.
If Kliff looked like Mark Mangino instead of Ken the Barbie Doll, he’d have never even been a D1 coach.

It depends on whether or not Mullen left on good terms with the in state HS from a recruiting standpoint and if I believed he is still hungry after how it ended at UF.
My list would be:
-Mullen
-Patterson
-One of the young Art Briles offensive guys if I’m taking a swing at a young guy to pair him with a huge offer to an experienced DC like Jim Leonhard and recruiter ie LSU with O/Brady/Aranda.
They can’t compete heads up with NIL so they have to recruit different guys to a different system IMO.

You really don’t think they take into consideration their quality of life and their family’s quality of life? Is it the driving factor? Maybe not but I’d have to think they at least consider it.

Why in the world would Dykes leave TCU for Miss State?
Posted on 12/14/22 at 7:12 am to Henry Jones Jr
I was a little off I didn’t realize Joe Lee Dunn coached 1 year between Brewer and Tuberville, also Tubs best year was 8 wins not 9. But that’s 5 coaches, Brewer, Tuberville, Cutcliffe, Freeze and Kiffin going back to 1983 that had at least 1 season with 8 or more wins. Only O and Luke coached more than 1 season without at least an 8 win season. You might night win a NC but you can win at OM

Head coaches at this level make well into 7 figures the “quality of life” for their families will be just fine where ever they are. However, not everyone has the same preferences, some may view the “qol” as better in a small town vs a major metro area. A lot depends on what you mean by quality of life. So no I don’t think someone turns down a major job like college head coach or coordinator position because the town or city where the school in question is located is not that exciting.
That said, I don’t think someone would leave TCU for Miss St unless there was some other factor, substantially more money, he was a State alum or something like that.
