At this point it seems the best play is lock down their DC and see what he can do as head coach for a couple of seasons, or at least till November in the interim and go from there. Looks like it's just a matter of trying to sustain what The Pirate had and trying to build on it. It's not like the program was in shambles with multiple bad seasons in a row and rebuild is necessary, I just think bringing in someone new right out of the gate would be like round hole square peg situation.

Out of the coaches I have seen mentioned I think Dana Holgorsen makes the most sense. I don't think he would be who we would hire if we had more time, but I think he would be someone that would accept the job, has the same system and is an established coach.

Why didn’t Missouri hire him? Why did Missouri settle for someone who never won a championship?

Now that you mention it, a guy named Jeff Traylor is pretty MSU.

Kingsbury after he gets the axe in Arizona. Dude looked like The Undertaker in the early 90's during Monday's game. Pale skin, dark circles around the eyes, heavy bags under them. Looked sickly, honestly. The pressure of the NFL is crushing him and I think he'd jump at the chance of returning to the college ranks.

He's coached Heisman winners, had some explosive offenses, and the expectations would be having a big win every other year and competing for a SECW title maybe twice a decade. He'd probably do well recruiting too. Egg Bowl would be fun as hell.

I’d pass on Holgorsen. I think he’s a pretty average coach and if Houston wants to overpay for him, let them do it.

Promoting Arnett makes a lot of sense. Mike Elko took Duke from 3-9 to 8-4, that’s mighty impressive.

MSU does need a scheme advantage, I mentioned Jamey Chadwell. Another is Dave Clawson from Wake, but all indications are that he’s difficult to pull from WF. But he’s a really good coach and schemer.

There were other factors in his case starting with USC is a better job especially with OU moving to the SEC. Oklahoma won’t/hasn’t had trouble finding a coach because Norman “sucks”. Isn’t Miami better than Tuscaloosa?

Klimt has more losing records than winning ones in his years as a coach, don’t get the affinity for that guy

Mullen was historically excellent at State. Unless he burned all the bridges, or State is too prideful to take him back, he should be the choice.

Holgorsen would not normally be my choice. Just think he makes sense in this instance. Of course maybe the job will draw more interest than I am realizing.

If we could get Elko, that would be a great hire.

Disagree. He could have looked like Freddy Krueger and would have still gotten the TT job in 2013 considering his alumni status and how good the 2012 A&M offense was.

Not in the way the poster I responded to meant. We’re not talking about about moving overseas to some 3rd world country. With some rare exceptions maybe, no one who in the range of candidates we’re talking about would turn down Miss St simply because he doesn’t like Starkville. How exactly do you think the “quality of life” there would be so awful for his family that would cause him to pass on the job beyond some rare case like access to certain medical facilities.

Yes my bad, by all means let’s play silly semantics games. You know exactly what I mean. No OC or DC is going to turn down a job offer at LSU for example because of crime or the schools in EBR Parrish or the roads (like some morons were telling in the past) With the salary he makes he would live in a nice neighborhood and send his kids to private schools or live outside the Parrish.

You think someone is turning down Bama or Clemson because they are in a better city? Of course not. TCU is a better job than Miss St, especially in the coming environment. That’s why Dykes wouldn’t (most likely) leave. Not because Ft Worth > Starkville the later is just a poster’s preference.
