It also made coach Brian Kelly the first coach ever to beat the same team twice in a season with different teams. Besides the historic significance of the game itself, the UC–WMU matchup was of particular interest because newly hired Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly coached Central Michigan University during the 2006 regular season. Kelly and Central Michigan, the main rival of WMU, defeated Western Michigan 31–7 just eight weeks earlier. In addition, both schools had been charter members of the Mid-American Conference (WMU is still in the conference today, but UC left after the 1952–53 academic year).

Why shouldn’t he coach the bowl game if he isn’t coaching Notre Dames?
He doesn't want to risk taking a L on his win-loss record with that turd of team O left him

Lester is an idiot. An incoming coach coaching in a bowl game for his new team almost never happens and makes little sense.

The ncaa has restrictions on number of coaches on staff etc. I’m sure LSU’s compliance department is all over this. Kelly isn’t coaching the bowl game

There is only 1 Coach K, and it is not spelled Kelly, Kellie, or Kelley.

Firing a coach mid season & letting him coach the rest of the year because you don’t have a clear interim makes little sense and almost never happens
Leaving your team to fly to Baton Rouge when said team has a chance to play in the CFB playoff makes little sense and almost never happens

It’s just a PR risk. Meaningless game, a team that he had no part in assembling/developing, you don’t risk derailing any positive momentum from the hire moving into the off-season by laying an egg in a meaningless game that he had no part in putting together the team playing in said game. I could be wrong, but I strongly doubt he’ll coach the bowl game. Im sure they’ll ask him about it tomorrow obviously.
Hell no, he won’t coach the bowl game for all these reasons.
He’ll be concentrating on building a staff and recruiting. His best role for bowl practices and the bowl game is strictly an observer.

because Brad Davis is the interim coach

Sure sounds like he wants to coach LSU in the bowl game

Most coaches say its a huge benefit going into the following year to get those 2-3 weeks of bowl practices. Especially for younger players. i would think even more so with a new coaching staff. As far as actually coaching the game, who knows, but i would start installing my o and defense so you can know what you have going into the spring.

Focus on recruiting. Pace the sidelines during the game and let the staff do their thing.
This. We have a bit of a tag tag bunch crossing the finish line. Don’t give Kelly an opportunity to lose with a depleted team that isn’t his

I disagree…I think if he really wanted to coach the bowl game they would have announced it. They kind of side-stepped the question IMO. Not that I blame him/them
I doubt he’ll coach the bowl game, I don’t think there’s any benefit, and only risk, to coaching the game.
Program has positive momentum and pop with the hire going into recruiting and the off-season, no reason to possibly derail that momentum in a meaningless bowl game

He didn't side step it at all. It actually sounded like a definitive yes but then he realized that he hadn't even spoken to Woodward about it.

He can’t announce it if they haven’t even talked about it

He mentioned getting ready for the bowl game, In what capacity that is, he didn’t say.

Whats the risk?
The benefit is he can conduct practices and learn his players, and get a free swing of coaching then in a scrimmage. Bowl prep and the game is during a recruiting dead period

focus on Staff AND recruiting...
... because those two are inextricably linked.
