Two days and never going back? ESB, Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Museum, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, the Met, Yankees game, Broadway play.
Some combination of all that. Hit the icons. You don’t have enough time to soak in the tucked away places and restaurants.

If you happen to be awake early on a Sunday morning. Take a ride up and down Manhattan all the way up to Harlem and down to Wall Street to get a glimpse of many classic NYC sights. You can even jump over to the Bronx for a look at Yankee Stadium. This can be done in only two or three hours on a Sunday morning. I did this on my very first trip and it was very satisfying.
It’s amazing how very little traffic there is on a Sunday morning in NYC.

When the wife and I go into the city, we always stop at Joe's Pizza. 1435 Broadway in Midtown. What shows are you going to?

Statue of Liberty
Ellis Island
There are many great suggestions here because you could live there and not see all the sites. The 911 museum, SOL, Staten Island ferry, a trip to Central Park and a few meals will leave some great memories for such a short trip.

With your limited schedule I would skip going to the top of the Empire and statue of liberty. No reason to go into trump tower. It's a hotel lobby. Times square is a tourist trap with shitty franchise restaurants.
Ride the Staten Island Ferry for a view of the Statue of Liberty. You have to get off the ferry but can get right back on pretty quick.
9/11 museum is a must.
Grand central station is pretty amazing. Don't be afraid to ride the subway.
Walk the Brooklyn bridge at night but only half way.

You’re doing the same show both nights?

I'm going to get roasted for this - but get tickets for a double decker bus tour.
I always recommend New York in One Day Guided Sightseeing Tour. $89 per adult gets you a professionally guided tour on a small bus w about 20 folks. Has over 1,000 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor. You see all the major highlights of Manhattan, and get a boat ride to see the Statue of Liberty.
My first visit was for over a week. Started day 1 with this tour, and it helped check off some things in an efficient manner and helped me get the lay of the land for individual exploring.

Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Get a slice in Brooklyn & walk back across.
Walk as much of Central Park as possible.
Take a tour of Grand Central Station. And eat in the food court at the station.

You'll get to see lots of stuff and it will help to orient you in the city.
Do that for a couple of hours, get the lay of the land and then go about your day.
Totally agree. This is always my strategy in a new city. Sit back and relax while the bus shows you the big sites and then make a gameplan knowing that you can hit the sites you want to see and that you at least got to see the places you realize you don't care about.

that's the ones. My wife gets her DMB fix for the year and I get to scratch MSG off the bucket list

Book a food tour. That's been our favorite thing to do. They last about 3 hours (usually noon -3p). You get a tour or a neighborhood. Do either Greenwich Village or Little Italy.
Totally agree with the above.
I’d suggest a food tour one day and the next day, go to the 9/11 museum, battery park and take a quick walk down the high line.
Central Park is massive. If you bike, I’d suggest that early one morning before another outing. The Met is impressive. I’d say skip the Empire State Building. Expensive and a long line. Do top of the rock if you want the view. After your concert, go to Times Square. It’s amazing that it looks like daylight in the middle of the night.

This would be my recommendation for a quick intro to any major city; New York especially.

Central Park
Grand Central Station
Top of The Rock
Walk down Park Ave./5th Ave.
Pop into local delis to eat.
Go in random buildings and look around.
The 9/11 memorial is cool, but I didn’t like the museum. It’s not really some place to go if you’re on vacation and only have a couple days.

I agree. Enjoyed the Memorial but not so much the 9/11 Museum.
