I was team Android until I worked for a company that took over our phone accounts and mandated MDM software. The android version sucked and was a battery drain and took away the ability to do custom ROMs. Switched back to iPhone and never left. I was never a fan of Samsung/Touchwiz, I liked the Nexus phones back then.

Today, if you're in the Apple ecosystem it's a no brainer. The devices just work beautifully together.

The only people who get pissy about iMessage are Apple people who "hate green boxes"

Why not just offer better app messaging options for iPhone users? I believe the anti-competitive behavior is being referenced within the Apple ecosystem.

All I ever hear is "Apple is so intuitive" and "it just works". But anytime I'm forced to handle an iPhone, I find it so un-intuitive, that I basically stare at it blankly. I think iPhone people would say the same thing about Android.

This x100.

iOS only makes sense on an iPad. It's useless and unintuitive on a phone. IPhone interfaces are awful for me.

Niagara Launcher changed my entire phone experience. And the fact that you can find a launcher that operates for you is clutch on Androids.

This is what Android/Windows users don't get. It's not just the phone, it's the laptop, the desktop, the homepods , the watch, the earbuds etc. it's all the software so tightly integrated. All work so smoothly integrated.

To summarize, in order to get the FULL benefit of the iPhone, you have to spend THOUSANDS on everything else apple? How is this a strength again?

You're right. You can always sell your data-mined soul to Google because you're too cheap to pay for Google not knowing when you take a shite.

Who doesn't get that?

It's been stated multiple times ITT and is stated every time this discussion occurs.

Everyone understands if you're willing to pay extra and agree to accept less functionality, you can get superior integration.

That gap is closing, however. I don't think people like you understand that. Also the alternative is providing similar levels of integration with multiple options for each node along the way.

The ironing is the one ecosystem that is refusing to join that integration party is Apple.

BS. Most of the android apps offer granular permissions now, you can turn most of that crap off. I keep GPS turned off anyway unless I actually need it.

You really believe that? Google makes its billions off of giving its software away to the hoi polloi in exchange for extreme data mining. You may be the only person in the world who ever tries to turn some of it off and is gullible enough to believe Google.

So it's not at all about iPhones being better for you, you just trust that apple is more secure with your data?

Because time and time again apple has been shown to be lying about privacy and security.

I certainly do. Apple would be subject to a massive class action if it's lying about the current data state of its personal data use. Not to mention even they are lying; lt is still no where near the incredible amount of data Google has and SELLS on you.

ETA: here's an example of Apple's privacy policy statements:

quote:

owards the end of the meeting, Dr. Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail decided to ask Cook about AI's effects on mental health issues, and pressed to know what Apple was doing about privacy issues. She taunted "If you've ever had an Apple Watch, you are being watched all the time."

Cook initially responded "Absolutely not actually," and that Apple was a "privacy company." He then went into explaining why this is the case, including how the company believes "privacy is a fundamental human right."

He went on to cover Apple's policies to collect as little information as required, the use of on-device collection and storage, and encryption. "Apple doesn't even see them. We can't see them. And if it is somebody wanted to get that from us, we don't have it. It's data that we never collect," he added.

Funny you should mention that, there are multiple class action lawsuits against apple going on right now over this very thing after a third party company released a report accusing apple of this.

Now to be fair, I understand law suits can always be filed and sometimes it's just in hopes of getting a settlement from a massive company, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out because several whistleblowers over the years have accused apple of lying about their privacy and security

This brings up an interesting question. A top of the line iPhone and a top of the line Samsung are roughly the same price and hardware specs, but the iPhone comes stuffed with Apple software, whereas most Samsung users use "free" Google software, so which phone is really more expensive as far as for usefulness out the box for the same dollar?

Similarly when you buy an Apple laptop or desktop it comes stuffed with quality Apple software, including its own version of Microsoft Office suite.

So, in other words, you aren't just paying for the hardware.

You're getting the software you need included.

This makes the typically ignorant Apple's over priced argument somewhat specious.

I started with iPhone - a used 3G. The gilded cage/closed ecosystem was one thing, but iTunes became the deal breaker.

My experience with Android hasn't been perfect, but far preferable to having to deal with all that goes with Apple. Having said that, if I was a Mac person (instead of PC), I would probably be all in for Apple.

But, I'm not so I'm not.

Apple's software is trash. I have 3 Macbook Pros because they are the best for what I do, which is more because of the the decisions of our IT department and the community around the language I work in having a preference towards macs. Anyway, aside from the OS, I dont use any Apple software. Hell, I don't even use the native terminal and the file explorer is garbage as well. Docs, sheets, maps, photos, mail, browser are all better from Google. Their software is an afterthought, not an added benefit.
