Someone needs to make sure whomever runs Qatar know that soccer is identified around the world as the gayest sport ever invented.

FIFA said non-alcoholic beer will still be sold at the eight stadiums, while champagne, wine, whiskey and other alcohol will be served in the luxury hospitality areas of the arenas.

Also how is Budweiser a main sponsor? I can’t imagine Europeans are drinking Bud Heavy and Bud Light

I live in Abu Dhabi and there is Budweiser in all of the hundreds of bars and restaurants here that I know of

Actually going step out to Easy Tiger around the corner from my house for a few buds

But then put the World Cup in countries not friendly to gays or women.

I will set another thing straight that I see all the time on this forum or others, about not liking gays or women in the Middle East.

As I just mentioned about the Budweiser, that it is plentiful in the bars here in Abu Dhabi.

I went to a bar that the Thai's have taken over. Was a Philippines Band but about 1.5 years ago the Thai's took over, so now a Thai band. Went there a few nights ago to see what was up, and they were overrun by about 20 Thai lady boys, and mean some huge ones! It was one of their birthdays so they had a big arse party there.

Now, there were still a lot of women in there, but if so bad, then the cops should have busted the place but they did not.

Also, with all the bars here there is a lot of trim out at night and they dress however they want. So, you guys who think you know better about what happens in these countries, you don't!!

Only in hotel bars. In Abu Dhabi

I loved my mostly Croat bartenders in the Abu Dhabi Courtyard.

For the uninitiated, beer was like $8 a pop five years ago at the hotel bar. However, the hotels usually had a five hour happy hour that ended in the early evening, kinda like Bourbon street. The bartender advised me I could buy as many beers as I wanted at 2 for 1 before happy hour ended, and they'd just put them on ice in front of me for the night. Oh, and they'd also give me a bucket to take whatever I didn't drink back to my room. The malicious compliance was delicious.

The odd thing was that certain "holidays" the bar was closed, and you could only get beer through room service. Getting beer delivered to my room at 0630 to watch an Auburn/LSU game was amazing.

I think Qatar just cost the rest of the gulf any shot at a world cup for 25 years. UAE I could have seen being OK, but this is going to kill the possibility.

People buy what the duty free has, not necessarily what they want, so I'd agree. Smirnoff probably has the bulk of their sales from duty free...

And Abu Dhabi has possibly the most easy going alcohol laws in the middle east

Qatar is probably on the easier end of the spectrum but is more strict than the UAE

Hence this mess

Only in hotel bars. In Abu Dhabi and Dubai. And you must show a foreign passport to prove you aren't local (even though it's usually obvious). There are also some stores that keep beer and wine behind the counter or locked away as if controlled pharmaceuticals in the US, and your passport isn't enough, you have to actually show your visa. When I went to visit my inlaws there in 2011, my FIL was the only one who had the paperwork to make beer runs.

My perspective comes from military deployments/TDYs.

Lets be honest, there were a ton of people that didn't want beer sales in their conference or stadiums. Just like the Qataries it was because of religion.
Conservative Muslims are like conservative religious people every where. Religion is man made to control the masses. No alcohol, no sex outside of marriage, no LGBTQ rights, no abortions, man makes the laws and women are subordinate etc. etc. All in the name of religion. I really don't know why you hate each other. Some of you have so much in common.

With that said I can't stand these Qatari lying, cheating SoB's. I hope this is a huge failure and the world gets to see what these clowns are really like.
