Hate to be the guy to say this - but quotes like he gave in that article might be the kind of thing that keep him from getting an invite should an opening happen.

He's been too honest the past two years, imo.

I think many (maybe most) of us disagree with leaving Landon out, but at the same time, the coach has to assemble a team that he things can win - if Landon isn't on it because someone else in his role is a better fit, then so be it.

quote:

“Based on my performances leading up to camp, based on my preparation for the camp, based on my fitness, based on my work load, based on the way I trained and played in camp, I not only thought I was a part of the twenty three, I thought I was in contention to be starting. That’s why this has all been pretty disappointing. And I think every one of my teammates (with the USMNT) would echo those same words.”

So you have Donovan saying he deserved to make it on what he's done in camp and Klinsmann saying he didn't. In this case, I have to believe what Donovan is saying. It's going to be really hard for me to believe someone like Brad Davis is going to be more useful than Donovan could've been. Klinsmann is basically forcing him into retirement w/ the national team. Donovan has earned the right to say what he feels.

Full interview made it seem like Klinsi didn't pick the best team to win in this world cup. What does the squad look like if he wasn't under contract through 2018?

What did Klinsmann's son tweet about Donovan? I don't have twitter.

Something like, "haha Donovan" or something to that effect after the roster was released.

Jurgen is still a frick. Our team did not need this controversy.

J.K. sending a message, his problem is Donovan is our Pele / Maradona.

He should be treated a little diffrent.

Granted, he didn't seem to be interested in staying in shape, but he could still be a 65ish minute sub and make a play vs tired players that Davis can't make.

I warned everyone that J.K. was going ti bench him if he didn't stay in shape, but he did more than that, he called him in, imho, to embarass him, at least that's the way it looks if you look at the reaction of his son.

Davis should never get the nod over Donovan who can play winger or forward, this was petty BS and J.K. might get run out of the country if we play horrible.

If Donovan had a German mother I bet he would've made the team by ab inch.

On Monday at work I said that Donovan might not make the 23 man roster. My coworkers thought I was nuts.

Look, JK is picking the team that he believes gives us the best chance to win now. As a writer for PST mentioned, this is the World Cup, not the NBA draft. You don't tank.

As for the sentiment that Donovan should be treated differently, that's bullshite. You have to do what's best for the whole team, not one player.

Tell me with a straight face that this is the best thing for the team cause it is not.

Then why did we take an 18 year old kid?

There's no way you think this team gives us the best chance to win NOW. Otherwise your all-time goal scorer would be on the plane. Now we will rely on an 18-year kid for crucial minutes late in games

I agree with most of that post. Solid post.

But come on.... He did it to embarrass LD because of JK sons twitter?? Something JK has no control over? JK has even said how embarrassed he is that his son did that and that his son owes LD a massive apology.

He'll be 19 on June 6. But seriously if you had asked me in 2010, right after the WC, who I thought the last roster cut would be and you had told me Donovan, I would have punched you in the mouth.

Recent form isn't personal.

And what about turning his back on the team for an extended period of time?

But look, bottom line is this: many people are being more emotional than rational over this decision. They're also focusing on what a player WAS rather than what he IS.
