re: So the Dodgers bought another championship...

bullshite take. MLB will not let teams operate at or anywhere near a loss for fear of bankruptcy. Owners can't just pump hundreds of millions of their own cash in. Only a handful of teams even have the media deals and income to do anything near what the Dodgers are doing, but none are on par.
Their media deal income, combined with the ability to defer money and guarantee it's availability by setting it aside and letting it grow, is unfair from a competitive balance standpoint and has to go.
So the reason why teams like the Pirates, White Sox, Rays, Marlins don't spend money is because MLB will not let teams operate that way?
Seems like they should be pressuring them to sell the teams.

You are correct about Glasnow.
When the D-Backs won it in 2001, they had almost 250 million in deferred money.

A few thoughts. I'm glad this is hurting the Astros fans. This moment is created because rather than act contrite, they decided to double down on the Dodgers choking narrative. This death star is in part, because their team gamed the system for two titles. 2017's title created a lot of this.
On "buying" titles. Do other teams have players working for free? Did anyone care that the Blue Jays had a payroll of nearly 100 million more than the Mariners the last round? Where was the "buying AL Titles" talk at? Astros couldn't afford Springer? Dodgers couldnt afford Seager, Machado, Trea Turner, Max Scherzer. They let a former NL MVP walk. The Dodgers spend money, but they also spend it wisely. (Maybe not Kirby Yates or Tanner Scott, who was definitely F-U money move).
The Dodgers have an organization everyone wants to play for. Max Muncy is on a team friendly deal. Freddie Freeman came over under market. Teo took a one year deal to play for LA. Why? Because the Dodgers are the best run organization. When Travis D’Arnaud showed he could play but didnt have much PT with the Dodgers, they basically sent him to the Rays so he could get the PT again. They are paying for Andrew Toles.
On the "loophole" (insert Princess Bride meme about not understanding the word). There is no loophole, the rules are simple and in the collective bargaining agreement. Every team uses deferred money in contracts, that's why it's there. The Dodgers just had a unicorn on their hands. And the "loophole" is preventing owners like Hal Steinbrenner (yes, I know he doesnt get money from LT) from pocketing Dodger luxury tax overages and fixing up his Tuscan estate rather than investing in teams.
On a salary floor and ceiling. The Dodgers are so well run, this wouldn't really be a stopping point. Pointing to the NFL as everyone does, the Steelers have the smallest payroll in the NFL at 258,000,000ish. Could you imagine Bob Nutting having to pay that sort of money on his team? C'mon, he's not agreeing to that. The only parties demanding on limiting player, the talent, payroll are fans of teams who still simp for billionaire owners. Yeah, it sucks. But you should be pushing MLB into kicking out owners using their teams as a writeoff.
On the Dodgers going bankrupt over deferrals, the ownership group just bought the Lakers for 10 billion dollars. The Dodgers likely just paid off the 460ish owed to Ohtani's fund. They run their team like their do their mutual funds, effectively.
Go Dodgers!

This probably doesn't happen if MLB wasn't such cucks when it came to the cheating scandal. Time to watch people defend billionaires not wanting to spend money and those same fans shite talk capitalism.

UCLA will lose 5 games this year. Their quarterback is only serviceable against weak and confused defenses like ours. Put him against any solid D, and he will be abysmal.
Name the 5 solid Defenses they will face this year. Utah? Maybe Oregon and USC?

You should check out the PAC-12 from this past week. There arent four losses on that schedule.
re: Chip Kelly and lsu

Chip Kelly basically ripped the "House that Jim Mora built" to the foundation. UCLA is one of the few places where a three year teardown doesnt result in a coach firing. You are seeing the results of patience.
Token UCLA fan here. I was one of the dozens at the Hawaii game, in the heat. You really just need your mask to enter the Rose Bowl. While I am generally pro mask, I couldn't sit there with my mask on for most of the game. Nobody is going to say anything to you.
re: Under Armour wants to end $280M UCLA deal, but university is fighting to keep it
Posted by mrbug708 on 6/27/20 at 5:23 pm to Gatorbait2008
UCLA wanting to "keep it" has everything to do about getting a buyout. Probably to cover the losses they sustained with the last two buyouts on bad contracts. It's not like this deal was ever about football or basketball because it was signed why UCLA wasn't exactly lighting it up. It was signed because of the athletic heritage, but mostly because it's in LA.
It's fantastic news though, because UA wasn't giving UCLA anyone of note on the AAU circuit.

Um what? UCLA spent about 130 million on remodeling Pauley and about 80 million on the football facility. They have the facilities and money. They don't have a progressive thinking Athletic Department.

The fans would love it but meyer's history wont allowed for his hiring at a achool where they are facing an enormous scandal for allowing a sexual predator to perform a decades worth of assaults during gynecology appointments. Thats to go along with a medical dean supply coke to his medical student WAGS

Chip Kelly isn't running the blur. And if he was going to, you dont run it with Wilson Speight.
He staryed two true frshmen on the DL. he has 2 ILB and 3 OLB on scholarship who can play. His OL has 6 scholarship players. The most startling fact is that 3 of them where recruited by Jim Mora. I think out of 14 OL guys recruited during the 13 to 16 seasons, just 3 are still here. Our best RB is a walkon, our best receiver came over after being a walkon at SC, and our QB is Wilson Speight. Yes we have tale t but we also have colossal gaps at kind of important positions

The lack of penalties being called for Palace is mind numbing. But the one called so far in their game was for Liverpool, which wasn't anything

3-1 Palace so far. No lead is safe these days, but Zaha is en fuego

UCLA ain't gonna pay top dollar for a football coach so that is a consideration.
SO they'll spend money on the buyout, just to hire a retread? Seems cheaper and easier to wait another year before firing Mora if that's the case.
