I agree. Let Landon look like shite in a televised friendly

That already happened against Mexico.

I just watched a bunch of Bedoya @ Nantes highlights, and that made me worry less about our wing options. Having a guy who's starting and scoring goals in ligue1 is not a bad thing.

Then why is Green going?

30 minutes in a friendly really does not qualify as enough either.

I guess we will see. If he proves to be as worthless as some are saying, we'll know it was a deal for switching to the US.
And Green's so-so performance against Mexico says a lot less than Landon showing up overweight and unable to take Rafa Marquez on.
Expected that a first-timer would have some nervous touches in that situation, but what's Landon's excuse? Slow is slow.

People on this board for some reason discount Bedoya. He's a very solid option. And this is just awesome.

Landon's situation is very similar to Tevez in Argentina. You can't bring a player like Landon aboard if he's not willing to sit on the bench. Landon was either gonna start or not go, Jurgen chose the best thing for the team. It's about the team not the sentimental value of on e player.

After his sabbatical Donovan said the following:
quote:

“If I can go back in with the national team and they ask me to play goalie, then I’ll play goalie,” Donovan deadpanned during a conference call with reporters.

He's not an ego maniac. He would have been ok coming off of the bench. I'm not sure why people make up this whole "Donovan didn't want to sit the bench argument" since there is literally zero proof for it. None.

I don't really see that comparison.

First, Donovan's history for the USMNT is as a player who's stepped up time and again in big moments. I've seen absolutely no evidence that he would be a cancer if relegated to a sub role.

Secondly, we don't have Messi, Kun, Di Maria, Lavezzi, Higuian.

You have to think guys like Howard, Bradley, Dempsey, Jozy, etc. are going to be so incredibly upset with Jurgen if we flop. I imagine they will all be frustrated and it will come to a head in a very nasty matter. You thought the anonymous bitching a while ago was bad, that wasn't shite to what's gonna happen if we got skull dragged.

Here's to hoping we don't though

There's really been a surprising amount of extremely debatable conjecture as well as outright BS presented as fact by people in "explaining" why Donovan was left off the WC squad. It's provided a great deal (if not the majority) of fuel for the fire.

On Julian Green: I look forward to seeing him in the friendlies but will wait 3 or 4 years to really expect anything, if that early. I follow club soccer closely enough to not to expect much out of teenage kids in actual big matches no matter how much promise they show as the next big thing.

Nailed it.

And while, we're at it:

2013 Highlights

Dude must have had the worst six months on the planet to go from that highlight reel to "incapable" in just six months.

He looked slow (for him) in the Mexico friendly which we were discussing as it related to him and Green.

Yeah, but you were using the slow and out of shape excuse as reasoning for him not making it. That has since been debunked.

I feel like every single theory has been debunked. There is almost no way this is not personal.

I'm at the point to where the only thing that is going to change my mind that it wasn't personal is if Howard, Dempsey, Bradley, or DMB come out and say that he was a cancer in the locker room. I'm past the point of listening to Jurgen (and his supporters) about this.

I'm pretty tired of arguing on this, but the posts in question are on this page (pg 7), so you should be able to see the context without me spelling it out for you. I was talking specifically about the Mexico friendly after CWill said that Jurgy should have let Landon look bad in a friendly before not including him. Then VKC said that Green also looked bad in the friendly, and I responded to that.
We are almost all Landon fans. I'm just trying not to assume the worst about this situation, and there is no debate that Donovan didn't look himself in the last few months. There's also no debate that at times Landon put himself over the national team and didn't show up for Jurgen when he was needed.
There is a case to be made that Jurgen is not acting in bad faith here, but y'all won't have any of that.

This kind of stuff right here by phunkasaurus reb pretty much sums up the way most of y'all are coming across:
quote:

I'm past the point of listening to Jurgen (and his supporters) about this.

It just doesn't make sense.

And this by VKC:
quote:

There is almost no way this is not personal.

Even if that's true, why is only Jurgen getting the blame for the personality conflict? None of us know what has gone on between Landon and JK, but y'all are acting like you do and that it's JK's fault.
