They don’t get minimum wages, less than half of that per hour. But they should definitely get tax legally claiming all income. A waiter at Antoine’s in New Orleans can make 4-5 k per week during certain times of the year, 2-3K average per week as summer slows down a bit with conventions slowing down. In Covington a decent restaurant can give a waiter 12-15 hundred per week so yes declare that

Do they still have to contribute to FICA? If not, they are fricking themselves because future payments are based on wages and amount paid in, right?

It gives a break to people with lower incomes.
Also good for building a coalition. No tax on tips, war is bad, get toxic dyes out of our food, etc.
Same reason Kamala cozied up to war pig Cheney.

Should be not tax on income as that is immoral. My labor is owned by myself alone, not any government.

Because it’s the Republican attempt to gain our low end of the Spectrum voter.
Dems play to their low end which is pretty much all.
Republicans need some low end voters to compete as well.

Because if he were giving tax cuts to those who deserve it, the morons would scream that he loves millionaires and billionaires.

What does that have to do with this topic?
If entry level jobs can afford taxes on tips OT ballers on here shouldn’t be complaining about gas prices, right?

1. It was for engaging a young liberal voter block that typically vote Democrat.
2. A tip is generally a gift. The actual service is taxed and if I choose to gift someone a little extra then they should not be taxed on it just because they are working in a tax paying business.

Why would servers and bartenders and gig economy workers get a different set of tax rules from the rest of us?
I consider my tips a gift. I can gift thousands of dollars to an individual and that individual doesn’t have to pay any taxes. When I elect to give a server or bartender money, why wouldn’t it be a gift?

Because that appeals to a large portion of the electorate. Both parties realize this.

For the same reason we have a deduction on 'No federal tax on overtime".
Who the freak can't understand it.
I've had a few thousand in overtime this year, and over $1k in fed taxes which will be on deduction.

Will bonuses be counted as tips moving forward?
As an hourly employee, my bonus was counted under the overtime rules, so, they already are.
I cannot speak to salary bonuses but if they are structured as "overtime" than perhaps.
