Why the push for no tax on tips?

Well, for starters, it’s a gratuity. It’s not paid by the employer as earnings. And two different customers receiving identical services likely will tip differently. Plus, government taking less money from the citizenry is always a good thing.

Because they get minimum wage

Because they receive a paltry minimum wage with a vast majority receiving little to no benefits. They essentially operate as independent contractors having to tip out those who support them, ie a Greeter, a Busboy, and Bartenders.

Because tips are gratuities and gratuities are gifts, not income. Small gifts are exempt from taxation.

consider my tips a gift. I can gift thousands of dollars to an individual and that individual doesn’t have to pay any taxes. When I elect to give a server or bartender money, why wouldn’t it be a gift?

Are you long forming your taxes and noting those gifts ?

It's a vote buying scheme and in particular it was a vote buying scheme to try to tip the scales in Nevada.

Is/was it also a vote buying scheme when Dems increase the tax exemptions for “the working class”, or when they created the earned income tax (give away) credit?

Look, I want a fair tax code and I don’t like this cut out for tip earners, but it seems like the very thing Dem politicians would have proposed, and they’re only mad because Trump stole their playbook.

Tax cuts are a great way to grow the deficit. That’s all I got.

I hate when they play that commercial. My poor wife has to hear me yell at the TV, “Cut your spending and pay down the national debt! Stop growing more debt!”

What? Laughably false. Cut spending and taxes and watch what happens.

Receipts are through the roof. Spending is the problem

Why do people keep saying this?

It's law that servers have to be paid a minimum of minimum wage if their tips do not get them to a minimum wage point.

Republicans wanted this too, but democrats prevented it.

You left out two important fact…

1) I said,
quote:

Cut your spending and pay down the national debt! Stop growing more debt!”

2) This administration grew spending.

Either increase taxes or cut spending. Those are the options to decrease the debt. We’ve recently cut taxes and increased spending. Exact opposite of what we should be doing.

An incredibly naive statement. Laffer curve. Increasing taxes is the dumbest thing you can propose.

No
I just tip depending on how well I am treated. There’s no tax deduction for giving away money unless it’s to a charity and you qualify.
